I'm trying to create an interactive installation for my MA project. It takes the form of a virtual supermarket, where the user walks the isles, selecting the goods they wish to ad to their basket. I intend for it to be very simple, black and white. As the user walks the isle footprints are made and the sounds of the automated checkouts can be heard in the distance, becoming louder as the user gets closer to them, but nothing else.
When they add a product to the basket, they actually add the sound of the product. Once they have finished and pass the checkout, the sounds will compile into a short piece of 'music' or at least something with a rhythm. The sounds will be recorded in real supermarkets and imported into the installation.
The Idea of the project is to heighten the awareness of our senses in contemporary consumption which currently focuses heavily on efficiency and convenience, and drags us away from the real experience.
The problem I face is i'm a design studies student, not a game developer, therefore have no idea how to create an installation like this! Therefore if anybody could take the time to share their view on this, such as the viability of making it, and how I can import the sounds and then compile them at the end of the interaction it would be greatly appreciated.
