ok, i have had this problem for a very long time. when i export a model from the workspace in Truespace 7.6, it comes out showing the skeloton and the model, but no animations. animations made in the model side will export, but the process to animate it is very bad in comparison to the workspace side. and on top of that, it doesnt even show shaders.
.......and to add to the description, you cant export the animations made in workspace form the modelspace.

That link may help a bit. I know I have written more about how to properly export models from truespace years ago. Also, you'll want to do a search for the TrueX plugin to successfully export .x models.

A book? I hate book. Book is stupid.

Received only three hits on google search for a TrueX plugin, two lead to the Caligari Forums where the relevant posts (and downloads, maybe?) no longer exist.

Currently, I export my truespace models into Blender, and use the Blender X export tool to create *.x DirectX models. Blenders current export tool only creates DirectX 9 models though. (Should say, I've only been able to create DirectX 9 models so far...)

I don't think that DarkBASIC can properly read truespace animations

try animating in another program.

MAN, why didnt i think of that before. ive downloaded blender before, and then i forgot about it because i didnt like its FOV settings. i have liked its large array of imports / exports though.

thank you, ill try this thread, but as for TrueX, ive searched for it before, and have had the same problem as GameDaddy.

and to Programming Dude. yeah, pretty much after i posted my "woes", i found Autodesks "Soft Image Mod Tool". it does have a great directX support, although the watermark on its render engine is driving me crazy. its animating stuff is, in my opinion, good enough for Autodesks Maya software.

And for anyone else, i would recomend getting Softimage Mod Tool for any charactr design. you can pretty much make a rigged, textured, 100% customized human or dog in a minute as easily as making a primitive shape.(did i mention it is free?)

man, i could go on this ramp forever, but ill leave that to my next thread. as for TrueX, if anyone can find it, i would apreciate it.

I export all my animations from TrueSpace into DarkBasic Pro fine. I use truespace 4, and have tried the new free one. Didn't like it so much.

Your signature has been erased by a mod because it is way too awesome!

I have not tested 7.6 for its X exports, but supposedly they work fine, since Microsoft acquired Caligari and favor they own format, x. However I remember making a screening test with 7.6 and the microsoft SDK mesh viewer, that threw good results.
Also remember that DBpro had some trouble with the newest versions of proper formatted DirectX objects.

In the past, the truespace x exporter was completely bad. I was fighting with Gamespace exporter for years, and it never worked properly. I did a research on that, and had somw analytical posts on the gamespace forums, now deceased.

I ended up exporting the X file, importing it into fragmotion (one of the only apps that support importing X) and reexporting it. Fragmotion really exports X well. Milkshape, Max, and blender do the work fine too.

As for C4D, exporter is not OK, and I was testing the trial version but they expressed to me no intention to concentrate on that format. I never tested maya or lightwave.

Gonna run my analysis with Ts7.6 and tell you over the weekend if I have some time.

EDIT: BTW, never heard of a trueX plugin, being caligari user from version 1. Have a link or address to get it?

For my pleasure, surprisingly the X exporter from truespace 7.6 is working fine. The model has to be properly rigged and skinned. No loose vertices or you have a problem.

Tested with different models, and exported ones work fine with march2009 directX sdk, and dbpro 7.3.

Attached a test, with source, model and exe.

Here you have another animation I did in about five minutes, using the model "rigged tank girl with handles" that is already configured with IK handles.
For characters, I recommend using a proper mesh, rig it with one of the TS7.6 included skeletons that accept BVH motions like the ones you can get at the fabulous truebones.com site.
For any other mesh, make your own skeleton with the easy TS tools.

For rigid parts animations, like a tank, you use linked primitives or your own segments, and TS creates the skeleton and hierarchy for you.
Am really really happy with this findings, because truespace and gamespace are my favorite modelers.

For UV mapping and texturing I still prefer to export my working mesh to .obj and UVmap it with uvmapper pro or lithunwrap. Texture it with photoshop and then reimport it into truespace with the LUV obj plugin. Important> All of this should be made prior to skinning and animating.

Im sure this problem has been on the forums before.

There is an update to Truespace for download. It's 7.61 beta 8. Supposed to have alot of fixed bugs in it.

If i remember correctly you just need to select the correct options before exporting in X format and remembering what was said in above threads about linking the model parts before exporting. Just play around with the export options untikll you get it to work in DBP.

ok, i went home and tried the truespace exporter again, and for nearly ten exports, it didnt work. Suddenly, it began to work perfectly with DBPro. i dont know what happened, i even made sure that all of the settings in the Export window worked. they all did, and the animation played perfectly. thanks for helping. i wonder if it was the order of the commands in the DBPro editor, though i highly doubt it.
