I posted this here instead of FPSC bugs, because it's probably not a bug, it's probably down to my own stupididy, or maybe I overlooked something. Anyways, I need some help with sound zones and/or story zones, here's the failing process that I try.

Record your voice on audacity; make an effect to make it lower.
Save it as a .WAV file.
Open FPSC, make sound zone in small map, and make sure it's set to play the sound I recorded 5 mins ago.
Go over the sound zone, realise it doesn't work, and fail to see the problem.

Is there something I'm missing? Do I have to change a script from one of the default ones? Does it simply not work in Test Mode? Does the sound zone not work with files above 1mb?

To Mods; if this is in the wrong place, please move it, thanks.

Can you post a screenshot of the sound/story zone properties?? and which version of FPSC are you using?

Make sure you pull the property window out so we can see all the file paths.

There's the screenie. I'm using FPSC 1.15. The sound I'm trying to play is 25.4 MB, and is 1.15 mins long.

Try saving the sound as an ogg. Not only this reduces filesize, it may work.

Audacity doesn't allow saving as an .ogg file. Know any good, free, converters?

I'm using version 1.2.6 of Audacity and it exports OGG..

File > Export As Ogg Vorbis

Bizarre? I can't see anything wrong with the setup, and I use Audacity 1.2.6 and exporting to WAV and OGG both work,

Try updating your Audacity to the latest version if you haven't already, then re-export to WAV as nikas says.

If that doesn't work, you may have to try a different sound editor!

There is a free converter plugin available. In fact, I think it's on the Audacity site. I highly recommend you use it. A few of those 25MB sound files , and your game is too big to download.

Ok, I've downloaded the latest version of Audacity, made a test sound, and placed the sound zone in a test map. I'm testing right now.

It worked. Thanks for the help. One last thing, is the .ogg file smaller in size? If not, how do I get it smaller? I don't want the game to be too big in size.

Good news! Glad its working for you,

.ogg is smaller and works well with FPSC, example would be:

File Length = 01.07
File size in .WAV = 5.66 MB
File size in .ogg = 609 KB

Audacity doesnt loose too much quality with compression either so will definately help your game build and resouring!!

Good luck!

Yeah, I always have problems with .wav files to. 1/2 of them work and half don't. I don't get why. I just convert everything to .ogg now.
