I've had a bit of down time lately and I've been watching a show on Hulu.com called Sea Patrol, about the Australian Navy. I have two questions about it.

1 - Do they really have women that look like the XO and Nav Officer?

and if so....

2 - What are my chances of enlisting?

But all that aside, is that show remotely close to reality?

Brian.

Yes, dude, this is Australia we're talking about. Not North America, Australia. Of course the females look like that.

Why would you enlist? The females you saw there were officers. Meaning, even if you had the chance to join up, you couldn't do anything because Officers cannot date/mate/etc with Enlisted, or vice versa, etc. Get your college done, change nationalities, and then head over to the land with thunder from up under the thunder, and stuff.

1 - I can't say that I've met any women XO's or Nav officers (I'm not even Navy), but I've never seen the show either.

2 - Depends on what you want to enlist as. From remembering the TV ads for the shows, Clearance Divers are the main people portrayed, who are really the equivalent to the SEALs in the US - i.e, a spec ops team, so physical fitness is really the main thing for entry.

http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/navy/jobs/ClearanceDiver/ More info there, but Clearance Divers aren't even Officers, so that takes a lot of the extra interviewing off your back in the application process.

Clearance Divers are also posted to TAG(E) here in Sydney, and trust me - those guys are absolutely crazy. (in a good way)

If you need any info, let me know, we occasionally get Navy pilots flying into our base w/clearance divers.

LOL. OK then! Thanks guys.

I spent twelve years in the Army and I never saw any females like that, enlisted or officer. I can also attest to the fact that the fraternization rules never really worked.

But really, the first part of that was just fooling around. What I really wanted to know is if the show is in any way realistic.

Considering I noticed you're in the US, I knew that.

But no, the show probably isn't realistic, when it comes to how the women look or what they actually do day in day out.

There are definitely women who are officers, just not covered in make-up like they are in the show.

Yeah, that is true. Speaking of which, I'm assuming you made E6? Based on your avatar? Were you infantry? Nah, you would've made way higher than E6 if you were infantry.

Yes, it's a very interesting concept. I don't feel like explaining.

I agree, maybe 10 out of 100 females I've seen that were in the military were somewhat decent.

Geolocking I believe or something better than geolocking, I don't believe the licensing or the laws will stretch over to the UK. Hulu isn't the only website. When we broadcasted our radio online, there were some countries we weren't allowed to broadcast to, so we had to use a geolocking system. I'm not sure how it worked, but then I wasn't the techie.

All females in the military are smoking hot, wear leather hot pants and their boobs are always just about to burst out of their tiny tops which are way too small for them. I thought everbody knew that, have you not played C&C Red Alert 3?

Yeah, I had that dream before too.

I was for the first five years, then switched to Air Traffic Controller (93H), control tower.

Aside from the females, does the show in any way portray the actual day-to-day operations of the Navy? I know it's condensed, and they have to make it exciting. What you normally see in a one hour show probably takes place over a month of time, but is it anywhere near realistic, duty wise? Isn't someone here in the Australian Navy?

I think I'm the only Australian in the ADF here (RAAF).

EDIT: Wait a second... there was someone else with the location "Secret military pub down under", and he's a mod. Not sure if he was ever/still is in the ADF though. The name Dave J pops into my head, but it might not be him.

MIDN90,

Thank you, and no need for apologies. I took it in the spirit of fun. Anyway, I am old.

Now why can't the air force be like that?

LOL. I think it's silly to put all those people on a ship and expect anything different.

How many people can you fit in a cockpit?

So I guess the TV show is not so realistic after all. They didn't show any of that stuff.
