Seems like the design version is tailored toward designers and architects.

Thanks,
Does anyone also know the difference between the SLM and NLM version other than price?

I'm guessing NLM stands for network license management and SLM single license management. Though that just a guess.

I emailed them asking this too, just wondering if I can get a quicker reply here.

Edit: I guessed correct http://discussion.autodesk.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=5681034

If your a student, buy the 13-month license of Max 2010 Design off of JourneyEd.com for $99 (or maybe it was $199?). You'll need to show your student ID (scan it). There really isn't a difference between the normal version and Design. Design comes with a few more features, but you're not going to be missing anything. Yes, it is geared towards architects and what not, but it's the exact same thing. Trust me, I bought it and I know

Not sure what a legacy version is.

Alex, what do you mean by commercial. Commercial being the same ones companies use or a commercial license so you can sell your stuff? That is the exact copy of what the professionals use, but I guess you would need a commercial license if you wanted to sell your stuff.

Personally, unless you're starting up a company and could get audited, I don't see the harm in selling some models on Turbo Squid with a student version of Max.

It's not like Autodesk is gonna sue you for making about a hundred bucks off of a model, right?

If they knew they might...

Anyway I'm willing to buy the full version. I need it for a large project I am working on.

Hello,

I intend to buy 3DSTudio Max 2010 from my college for the reduced rate of $600 for the full version. Is that a good price or is it cheaper somewhere else for being a college student?

@AlexI- Sorry, for asking my own question about the program.

Thanks for any replies,

JourneyEd.com has a 13-month license of it for $99. http://www.journeyed.com/itemDetail.asp?ItmNo=100960970

The perpetual version is $379 http://www.journeyed.com/itemDetail.asp?ItmNo=100960971

Personally I would rather buy the 13-month license. That way every year you can purchase the license for the next version and not waste money.

*sigh*

For the last time. The educational versions LACK NOTHING. You just can't 'technically' sell your work unless you purchase a commercial license.

Perpetual = forever license
13-Month license = 13 month

Perpetual costs more
13-Month license costs less

Best value? IMO, 13-month. Every year you get the latest version.

PS: Bewarned, I have heard bad things about 2010 from professionals. Mainly about it being slow as heck.

No, it wasn't. Is unlimited student license the same as perpetual?

/facepalm

13-month student license = $99
Perpetual student license = $379

13-month commercial = not sure, not sure if they even have one? I'm sure they do though.
Perpetual commercial license = $3390

JourneyEd is very legit. I purchased my copy through them and so have a handful of my animation buddies from class.
