Geek Culture / simple politeness frowned on by forum software?

Apparently I'm not allowed to use the same phrase to acknowledge someone's comments.

Just tried to say "You're welcome. " on the Learning to Write Shaders thread and it won't let me do it because I've used exactly the same wording before.

The thread has over 1300 posts, many by me. What madness is this? Am I supposed to keep trying different ways of saying or, Heaven forbid, spelling my message.

I feel better now. I'll go and change the wording.

Just do as I do.

Quote: "I was going to write "thanks" to xxx, but the board system won't let me. So, now that there is some more text to it, thanks xxx. "

That message is just arbitrary and can easily be rephrased

@IanM
I would lose count:

Post #2194634: thanks!

Just add a bold on the end. This can also be used to make empty posts. Observe.

You're rather smug, aren't you?

@Nex: Oooh, vile...

@bobbel: I guess you could do that. But what if user xxx credits you twice?

I'm beginning to wish I hadn't started this.

'Fraid so.
