I'm trying to work with Animation in FPSC and I'm not sure whether I should buy AC3D or 3D Canvas Pro. Both say they work with animations and DirectX but I've tried half a dozen other programs so I figured I would try something from the Game Creators Website.

Hi Wise

AC3D is a great program, but it cannot to animations. I'm not sure about 3D Canvas. You could use something like Milkshape. I'm sure you could find other programs that could do animations.

I already have a great animation, my question is what program can import the file with the animation and export with the animation. Countless programs can import but don't import the animation so when I export it only export the mesh with no frames

Action 3D can import Direct X animations and 3DS but I have found, luckily before purchase, that it only imports animations from DirectX rather 3DS is imported mesh and texture only

I'm looking for a program import 3DS and anmations and export to DirectX retaining accurate geometry and frames.

Milkshape exports and/or imports incorrectly
Blender exports and/or imports incorrectly
3DS MAX exports geometry wrong
LithUnwrap cannot hold animations
UV Wrapper Classic cannot hold animations
Action 3D cannot hold animations
FPSC Simple 3DS to Direct X doesn't export geometry correctly
Entity Creation System doesn't support animation
Character Creation System doesn't convert files trying to link in game unconverted

I've tried quite a dozen more programs which is why I was getting at AC3D and 3D canvas Pro

Hey mate, i use AC3D to model and i use 3d canvas pro to animate, AC3D is a great simple tool to make models with..I use 3d Canvas pro to animate but to be honest it can be frustratingly buggy at times when using bones and exporting to Directx, ive made many animated models with it that work well. 3Dcanvas pro 8 will be out very soon and is supposed to have better stability and features for animation. I have not tried any other animation program so i cant tell you wether its better or worse.

Edit ** OH btw AC3D does NOT! support Animation..I made that mistake myself when i purchased it and realised it didnt have animation i was pretty pissed off but thats why i bought 3d canvas pro too, so i model with AC3D and import to 3d canvas and animate with that.
