Thanks Flatlander,

I'll be working on my game today as it's my day off so having the newest version is great.

Also I'll be trying to help Jenkins with his game

It is a shame that more people haven't jumped onto the RPG MOD bandwagon but unfortunately I think many won't want to put the effort into scripting to get things working

Some of my favourite FPSC games are ones which have done interesting things with scripting.

I'll be looking in to this for my next project. I do like to script things so I don't mind the heavy workload. I like what I see so far and I hope I enjoy this. Thanks for the release Flatlander.

Flatlander,

Just to say that your mod is excellent and very original.. I've been playing around with it for a couple of days and love it.

I hope you do too. If you had just downloaded this, you won't find a changed keyboard issue. For those who have uploaded this earlier, you will notice that the WASD,QE keys are not working and the "C", "Shift" "spacebar" keys have been changed to:

Crouch = PgDn
Run = "]"
Jump = "\"

I was just playing around with changing keys to see how to do it and forgot to change them back. I was doing this to see how I can allow for customized key changes.

If you click on the download button -- see next post -- you will get the exe file that has the original key configuration. Sorry for any confusion.

I've added two more init setup commands:

* rpg_disableambientkeys (no parameter) disables the “,” and “.” Ambient keys. Some may think of them as the "<" and ">
keys. Some developers may not want their ambiance to be changed.

* rpg_muteplayerjumpsound (no parameter) – this mutes the sound the player makes when he/she jumps. (to me it is annoying.)

Attached is the exe file that includes the use of these two commands.

This also includes another correction that has to do with the key configurations. If you build the game you will lose the "shift" key for making player run. It will, however, be the changed key. Download this even if you don't care about the additional setup commands.

@ Flatlander

My wife and I read this thread with enthusiasm. The amount of work and detail you have put into this mod is amazing. As Thraxas stated earlier about paying $20 without hesitation, we too would pay it or more for the amount of hard work.

Have tested it out on our end and it works like a charm. Documentation you provided was crystal clear. Just wanted to say great work.

Cheers

Thanks BlackFox. I see you are looking seriously at Fenix. Don't blame you. However, I won't be supporting any issues with RPG Mod within Fenix.

I have just transferred RPG Mod to v116. It compiled OK.

In the newer version I have included a clues system and a quest log. The quest log will allow for defining of quests. It will also allow you to define two different timing mechanisms. One is you can allow the player only a certain amount of time for a quest. If he finishes the quest within the time limit he wins. Once the time limit is reached then the level (quest) is finished and he loses that quest. Also, you can time a quest to see how fast it takes the player to finish the quest. (I am not sure if this is going to work for internet multilplayer games). However, individuals can compete by posting up their times.

You can access different levels and there will be no need to go from one level to the next in sequence. This makes the quest system more plausible.

I have also found a couple of bugs and corrected them.

I will be posting the new EXE file when I finish the quest log.

Very nice work. Perhaps we were a bit confused. Is RPG mod seperate from Fenix mod? We may have misunderstood and thought the two were combining.

Either way, Cathy would be using your RPG mod since your quest log and such fits her egyptian game she is developing. We're looking forward to putting it to use.

Cheers

Hi Mike,

I gave Hockeykid my code of an earlier version for him to place in his mod as he sees fit. Yes, RPG Mod is my mod and does not have anything else in it as Fenix has.

Lee will have all of my code but I don't think he will use it in quite the same way. For example, the "raw" text commands in version 116 is completely different from all of my text commands in the sense that it is created on the fly. This actually compliments the fact that all of my text is defined and has different uses.

If Cathy wants the quest log she will have to use this mod as it will not be in Fenix. I also don't think that the "clues system" is in Fenix either as well as a couple of setup commands that were added around the same time.

Cathy may want to consider using the "clues system" as well.

@ Flatlander

We have run Fenix mod and got some great results. However, looking at the quest and clue system, Cathy would use this moreso than myself at the moment. It seems to fit with what she is developing. The nice thing is that I coded an application for us where we can swap out one mod and place another. So since we purchased PB and she wants to use RPG, I can build the app to make the "switch" for her first before FPSC starts up.

I have not told her yet about the "clues system". At our age, I like to give her the goodies one at a time I know she will really like that idea. I'll keep watch on this topic for the release.

Edit: Just downloaded from your first post. I will set it up for her so she will have her surprise tonight when she gets home. If i know her, she'll be really excited over this.

Cheers

Because I am able to sell this mod to educators and because of lack of interest (based on the lack of enthusiastic posts and not on how many have viewed) I will not be giving this mod away. I have sold it for more than the majority of people would pay for it in general. This thread can be locked. If I decide to "advertise it on the forum" I will start a new thread plus it will at least have a better mod description.

Thraxas and BlackFox (and his better half BlueFox), my two loyal and enthusiastic (well, maybe semi-enthusiastic) supporters, I will be sending you an email.

Cathy says she was the "enthusiastic" one.

E-mail received.

I must clarify. I did not sell the source code. I am selling the exe file plus revised documentation.
