there is a cool program out now called makehuman it can make photo-accurate humans in less than 2 1\2 minutes! plus it has a built-in renderer, and no instalation!

There's been a Python script for Blender for a while now that did just this. I guess someone got around to making it a full program. Problem is, the models were usually so high poly to make them "photo-accurate" that they're not really good for use in games without some heavy poly reduction. Maybe they've fixed that in this version, though.

ya they look REALLY high poly but it has some of the best graphics i have ever seen and they look just like a real person and the same
company is making a program called makehair which gives your model really realistic hair just goto www.makehuman.org

this has been out for ages mate
TBH, It's something to steer clear of, the meshes it makes are messy and unusably high-poly. You'd be so much better off learning to model humans properly.

They look realistically uninteresting. Not to be sour or anything. They make anatomically correct meshes, they just lack any type of character, and they look 'empty'.

Though if that is your thing, then maybe it's for you.

once I made tutankhamun's coffin at my work based on a makehuman character. the empty feeling of the face causes no problem for that

Anyway, I think makehuman is a nice program, making meshes around 3k polis, and you can tune lots of small thingies to make an unique character. Great for beginners, or if you have to represent a character fast.

Even if the models are high poly, it's a great tool for getting human proportions correct, much better than using photo-ref or eyeballing it.

Export your model from makehuman, import into your modeling app, and build your game model AROUND it. I've done this myself. The human eye is very good at detecting wrong proportions, and this makes it easy to get basic body proportions correct. Great timesaver in my opinion.

He's not saying to use the makehuman model. He's saying to create your model while using the makehuman model as a reference of proportions

it lets you draw finer detail onto the model. sorta like what a normal map can do. it lets you draw directly onto the model. i believe it also has a large picture thing that you can search through to draw onto the model but that be in the one being released in a few months and not the one currently out.

Might be useful to use it as a base, or even for baking normal maps. Like take the model and load it into your modelling app, and use it as a guide, make a low poly version around it.

One of the things that always gets me is proportion, I think this sort of practice would help people learning to model characters.

i found another useful program last night it was called Facegen modeler it can make acurate human heads and export them,i think it is high poly though because the poly off my current head is 6152 is that high? i guess it is simular to make human exept for you can to more with the head. plus it has a face mapper where you can take a picture of your head and map it to it.
