I am making a part of a town, and wondering whether to use CSG programs like 3d world studio, or modeling programs like 3ds max? The level is quite detailed, but the only problem is uv mapping the level if I use 3ds, which baffles me on how to do it

It depends on what your needs are, your skill level, and what your comfortable with. I like working in an editor like UnrealEd or Source SDK and importing the mesh's I made in Max to create my levels. But of course, your not using either of those editors. A good route to go is 3DWS. I personally dislike 3DWS so I would prefer using Max alone... but again, it's up to you.

I tried making the level in 3ds, but the exporter to .X is completely ****, it crashes 3dws if i try to import it The other thing is that when I try to import it into my game, it doesn't even appear (yes, I tried scaling it)

Edit: Wow! I found this amazing .X to .dbo converter located here: http://www.teamxtcgames.com/3d_object_viewer.htm it is insane! Works perfectly first time! Im going to use max instead of 3dws for my levels

why would you want an x to dbo converter?
If you use 3DWS and want dbo files why not just export as dbo from 3DWS?

Nothing to see here, move along please.
