I have been waiting ages for upgrade 5 and it has arrived but why does it have to be soooo big.

Some of u will have broadband and will be able to get the patch in 1
min but i have 56k so thats the estimated 25 mins and then there is the ancient cable that is connecting my house to the rest of the world that doubles the download time. it has taken 50 mins so far to download 87% of U5.

Surely its possible to just update and not redo everything upgrade 2,3 and 4 did. everyone must have U4 by now and so is there any point to having it included in patch 5. And for those who have just bought DBP who will not have any of the patches, they can be the ones to download a 9MB file that does everything.

The answer is that you need a faster connection. Even on my old 56K modem, a 10MB download wouldn't have taken anywhere near that amount of time.

Most users in this forum have broadband, and the few that have a 56K modem probably have a significantly faster one, so that it wouldn't really be worth the effort producing two seperate patches.

i want a faster connection but my parents wont get one, they wont even get free internet access we still have to pay per minute. But i still think they should think about the little people like me.

ROB: apart from those of us that live so far out of town you are lucky to get 28k speeds with a 56k modem, and the population density is so low around here that BT tells us we will NEVER get broadband since there is not enough demand (nor will there ever be..not if everybody around here had PC`s, and they don`t, not by a long shot)

That is unfortunate, however, it is only a 10MB download (thats 3 music songs), once every 3 or 4 months. Not too bad really.

you guys could have two different compressed file's. one like you have and a rar file with the best compression. winrar makes it 5.7 mb not much smaller but people with crap connection's will relizes the difference.

the size is to small to worry about unless your unfortunate to have your attention span destroyed by television

I guess Indi is on cable from that remark, it`s not JUST the time, although if you are on pay as you go then it`s costing you money, it`s the fact that you can`t use the computer while the download is running since the (win)modem is busy and most winmodems resent the PC doing anything else while they are in use (jk..but seems like it sometimes), so that prevents you reading through DB forums, and if you run any software you may find when you exit it that the download failed or the window got closed, so you can`t use the computer for a whole hour while it trudges through the download, maybe they should ask PC user to carry Darkbasic updates on the coverdisk, magazines do it for plenty of games and other software, maybe they could do a DB tutorial series and carry the demo and updates on the coverdisk, I should think most people buy magazines now and again.
