As a purchaser of Dark Clouds, when and where can we download this update?

DarkClouds itself is not but I'm hoping the update will be to existing customers

I bought the plug-in and loved how easy it is to use. Some fixes needs to be done with the rain if it didn't already get fixed with the new version thats about to come out.

Perfect skies and clouds. I was amazed how you can fly through the clouds and go over them and look down. Perfect for a flying game. Keep it up.

@ Roderick,

Any chance also (if not done already) of revised demos in the updated download to show off planets, sun, stars, moon and/or alienesque atmospheres???

@Duffer, all I know is that it's imminent. It's all there, but obviously needs to go through the diligence process to get it packaged etc.

@ Mike & Roderick,

Just to mention that some of the wonderful new commands like the dc set sun and dc set planet commands are recognised and used in code but cant be in the ini keywords file (query - are they covered in help? F1) as they dont show highlighted when you look at the DarkClouds sample code....?

[edit]

also the dc set scattering command not covered in the ini/help...

[further edit]

See the keywords ini as it now is after the update - not sure why DBPro not seeing the commands - is it something to do with the gap lines?

Works on mine - all new commands are highlighted and F1 help works.. Duffer can you try removing the gaps in your .ini file and let me know if that fixes it? Thanks

I get the same thing, new commands aren't highlighted...

There was one line blank in the ini but it made no difference when I deleted the empty line.

EDIT: Just "re-built" keywords and it's fine now (never used that before but then I'm new to Synergy Editor)...

@Duffer, check my previous post, I think this is an editor problem as I just re-built my keywords and now it's fine.

Which editor do you use?

OK, so where do you download the darn update?

I read the newsletter, visited the Dark Clouds page on DB Pro's website and I cannot see any download link for existing customers.

The new version of DarkClouds crashes for me. I was using the latest official version of DBpro, but tried to update to the new beta version after I got the DarkClouds crash. If I re-install the old version of DarkClouds, it works again. This happens in my project and in the example supplied with DarkClouds. I just get a window that says "DarkBasic Pro Project has stopped working".

I downloaded and installed it. When I try to compile, it is telling me it cannot locate 'd3dx9_42.dll'. I have been running DirectX 9.0c for a long time. Does DarkCLOUDS utilize a newer DirectX version?

Also, I just downloaded the U74 patch to DBPro. But when I look at the about box it says, 1.071. Shouldn't that say 1.074?

I get the same problem exactly. Strangely, when I installed it on my second (work) PC which is not quite as good spec it will compile but looks terrible...

...wishing I'd tried the compiled version at home now...

Looks like updating DirectX will work in the short term to fix these issues - please let me know if not - but I will fix it so it isn't necessary.

So, how do you change the sky color? In one of the pictures, the sky is pink.

I was wondering about that too...

I updated DX and still get the same dodgy looking clouds on my work PC. The previous release worked fine on this machine so I don't see why that would make any difference anyway. I guess your tweaks increased the minimum requirements for the plugin...

What are the minimum requirements for DarkCLOUDS? I need to know anyway in case I want to release a game!

It's the 'dc set scattering 7,11,24' command which controls the Red, Green and Blue values of the sky and clouds color.
You can achieve the same effect with changing the 'dc set sun color 0.6,0.65,0.6' values. You can get some very nice alien atmospheres with those two commands.
And the shadows on the planets (from the sunlight that shines) changes accordingly to the position of the sun.
It's a very nice plugin.

Cheers

...bump. Sorry but this is getting quite frustrating now...

I used the update for DirectX here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

As far as I can tell that's the latest one but someone mentions 9.42 higher up so I checked and that one is in my "system32" directory...

HELP!?

Just tried the new commands. AWESOME! It looks very good

The only thing that I have any dislike for is the amount of time that it takes to initialize DarkClouds. I know it is doing a lot, but it really increases to the amount of time it takes my app to start. It would be useful if you could save the current state of DarkClouds, then load that when your app starts instead of DarkClouds recalculating everything from scratch.
Very nice plugin though! Please keep the features coming

Ron

Is there any official word on a Dark GDK version. Is one in the works or not planned at all?

This is working nicely on my home computer but I have some questions about the new commands...

1- What are the upper limits in Rayleigh scattering?
2- In "Set sun color" are the values between 0.0 and 1.0 for RGB? ...and "Returns an integer color value.", what does this mean?

Also regarding setting the position of planets, a better explanation of how to use the x,y,z angles would be a massive help!! For example:

3- How do I position a planet at 270 degrees in y (or East) and 15 degrees from the horizon?

When I move the camera to the sun quickly or away from the sun quickly, the sun behaves strangely.
I guess it is a kind of bug...

I get a similar problem. The sun will grow/shrink quickly.

Baxslash:

1. Not really sure - large values would be like looking through thick fog or gas.

2. Integer colors - these are the RGBA colors DBPro uses, with 8 bits per color and 8 bits for alpha.

colour=b+(g<<8)+(r<<16)+0xFF000000;

As for your other bugs on some hardware, I think it's to do with alpha-blending support with older GPU's. Can you tell me what cards you have on the machines and what result each one produces?

3. East is positive x, so this would be (1,sin(15),0) and sin(15) is about 0.26.

@Roderick_Simul, thanks that's a huge help!

Quote: "Can you tell me what cards you have on the machines and what result each one produces?"

The GPU I'm having problems with is quite old actually, I'm running an ATI Fire GL V3100 and getting the result I posted previously:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/xt/xt_apollo_pic.php?i=2024958

It's not a huge problem for me as it works at home on my more recent card. If you're interested by the way I'm using DC to produce a skybox/skysphere maker called "EnviroScope" here:

Clouds disappearing

Hi,

In the DarkCLOUDS sample when you move upwards until you're above the cloud base/level, the clouds disappear. Does anyone know how to prevent this or is this how it's supposed to work ?

Thanks
