I was practicing UV mapping and texturing, and I made this:
. I uploaded the model, texture, and normal map onto media fire. Here is the blender file: http://www.mediafire.com/?qokmudkjdnj
The texture: http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=nkjnm1odmwt&thumb=5 the normal map http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=2ojym1yemij&thumb=5 and the .X file: http://www.mediafire.com/?02qrmmryjm2 Enjoy . It has 522 triangular polies.

not bad mate, but you should use reference images to get your shape right the blade is the wrong shape & the tip is to long.take a look at the image below its a model of my sword ( i had it made for me in japan a few years ago )

Yeah I would have, but I just wanted to make one for practice. Anyways, like I said in another thread, I wasn't going to use this in a game or anything. If I did I probably would have reference image traced. And nice work on your model! I think you should texture it and put it in that thread, it would look great! . And the hilt of your blade, I thought the only type of face possible was quad and tri. Do you use max? (I'm planning on getting it someday). I think i'm going to make my own referenced model sword, but not now.

Here's my new model: I'll texture it and post it here again. Still, I think your sword model is much better HH.I found the reference picture at the samurai swords for sale website. The name explains it all It has 388 triangular polies. Oh, and I'll make a sheath later.

remember always try to get as many reference images as you can before starting to model it really helps! you can then use them to build your textures with as well.

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind. Oh, and just as a thing, I know this is off topic, but where can I get 3ds Max 8? I've looked, but autodesk is the only one I can find, and autodesk 3dsmax is like $3000!

Hey, HH, if its not too much asking, I'm having trouble accuratly texturing my model. Could you make a tutorials or just tell me some simple way on making the texture? This is the sword: The hilt I just costumed to being gold, and I think I might be able to cover that, but for the that little cloth wrap around the handle, I have no idea, and the the smooth metal, I can only make a scratchy smooth. Looking off of you're textured sword model on your website, I was thinking you might now how to mkae some of the textures I need. Like I said a while ago I need a more experience on making textures .

Ok, here is the second (actually third) version:
Ok, the .blend file: http://www.mediafire.com/?ngzghwxtyiw the .blend file with tri polys: http://www.mediafire.com/?zhxydq2wvhh the .3ds file: http://www.mediafire.com/?ngzghwxtyiw
the .3ds file with tri polys http://www.mediafire.com/?zh2zxdkm2tt the .x file: http://www.mediafire.com/?qmm4ixjnmmh the texture: http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=i25kynim2ny&thumb=5 and the normal map: http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=yrdfzy51wlm&thumb=5.

This is probably the second to last samurai sword I might make, becuase I when I'm a pro in texturing, or at least good at it, I'll remake the sword and make the texture much more accurate, but for the moment this is all that I could do. (Oh, and can someone tell me how people make a link to something without tpying the URL, just a random name? Like if I wanted to say "The .3DS file", whith the whole phrase hyperlinked instead of typing the URL with the bracketed hrefs around it?) And the sharp end of the blade, that curvy one, I'll add in the final version, but again, I won't be making that soon. It has 210 tri and quad polies, and when converted 390 tri polys. Enjoy!

No, mainly because I didn't know how to use it in FPSC (mainly I didn't know how to make the FPE file)

Ok, I will, but like I said a while back, I'm probably going to make a fourth and final version of the samurai sword model, and when I get to that I'll probably make an FPSC version... in fact, when I get to that I'll just put it on TGC Store free...

In that case rabid lemur, if you want to buy some nice models (including a very awesome looking katana):
Not only is this katana awesome, but it's already made for FPSC, so it's very satisfying I assume ^^. The entire model pack is $19.99, €12.99, or £10.99. Though eventually I'll get to the last version of my Samurai Sword model, which will be hopefully as good as the FPSC Model Pack 9 Sword.
