i have been recently having a problem with blender that i have never had before, the texture and .x exporter don't work. i am able to UV map my models in the same way i always have but recently when i then go to apply a texture to it, the texture doesn't show up in the editor like so, what is the problem.

secondly i have always been able to export my models from blender to FPSC with moderate ease, however with the last two models I've tried to get into FPSC I've had an error message that reads, cannot locate model at line 1337
here is my process that i have always used but now doesn't work
model in blender- manual UV map in blender- save UV map as .tga- export model as .0bj (to retain the Uv map)- texture UV map- import .obj and export as .x- bring into FPSC
this process has always worked but now doesn't
i really need help on this

I don't know much about the .X exporter, but I know somethings about the textures. I figured that the image you load in the UV image editor is the one that comes into the textured scene, not the one in the materials and textures editor. When you assign a texture to the model in the materials window, then when you render the image, the texture shows up. Oh and I don't know much about exporting models and importing them into FPSC, but here's a question: you do include the .FPE files?

SJH is right about the process. You have to make the material do a texture instead, and make sure it maps correctly. The help I can give is actually regarding the part of the screen you're not showing, and partly some that you are.

There is a UV tab where Links and Properties are, but only under the texturing section of editing. (The liquid-like image to the right of the red ball) if I remember right. It has some properties you might wanna mess with. I was doing this for something in Omen yesterday.

Also in the screen you're showing, middle-mouse click-n-drag to the left to get the far-right map-to tab. Mess around with that, and definitely click UV as it's default is orco.

The manual's no good here, in my opinion, just click around until you get it. You can always render or use the Render Preview window to see if it shows up even though the texture-view doesn't show it.

The next issue you'll probably run into is how procedural textures don't export. Look up texture baking when you get to that, if you do use them later. Gluck

Have you tried pressing 'P' to see if the texture is there?

Also have you tried doing a split window and open up the UV viewport. Tab into the object (edit mode) and select all faces/verts/edges to show the UV maps. Then down the bottom of the view window where you see image, open and load the texture. See if that works.

Just a note to save some trouble that I've had, blender's .x exporter doesn't like long texture file names. Hopefully it will be useful to know lol.

All the best in getting that texture to appear and getting your exports to work properly.

thanks guys i will try out what you have been saying but with the exporter i found out that all i needed to do was just export the .x file, even though in the past its required both the .obj and the .x, wierd oh well. and with the texture i'll try what you said but you never know it may have just been that file, i'll find out thanks
