Alright, so I figured about a month back I'd take up 3d modelling. Someone recommended Blender to me, so I downloaded it, and learned most of the hotkeys through tutorials, manuals, and experimentation. So, I made a simple model (a TV), UV mapped it, and took a few screenshots. Here they are.

I made it by excruding a cube a couple times and resizing it a little bit. I then marked the seems, UV mapped it pretty decently, and shot a few renders.

So, I would like to know if I'm doing things correctly so far, and what you think of the UV map. Just if it's place in the right spot, fits the model, etc..

Also wanted to ask how to normal map and if it's worth it. A link to a good tutorial would be nice but you don't have to provide it if you think it's too much trouble.

Thanks in advance!

-HC

Please put them in img brackets next time please.

Not bad for a first, but I have 2 crits:

1: Like most first models, it is flat..

2: I have not seen a 100% (Besides the glass) wooden TV before. I seen some with like a wood frame, but not all wood.

Good things:

1: I like that you do not have unneeded polly's, good practice.

2: UV Mapped, I noticed not many first models are mapped or even textured.

Hmm... here's a thing, I think when you include the file name in with the image adress, and then you try to post the image adress by using the (img) command for the forum, it doesn't work. Try posting them without the file name in the adress, though copy-pasting it into the search bar.. anyways, congrats on taking up 3D modeling, and I'd say you're wise that you're using blender. There are other free 3D modeling programs that work as well as blender, but for me the interface is easier. and nice work on your first model, my first model was not so great, and I set my hopes too high, but I've learned much since then .

I cannot seem to fix that for some reason .

Hey, thanks. But I've tried to set my expectations low for atleast the first few months. That way if I make a horrible model, atleast I knew I expected it.

I've really gotten used to blender and can finally say after a month of tinkering, I really like the interface. Just takes some getting used to is all.

And truthfully, that wasn't my first model, just the first one I UV mapped. Here's a couple others I've done, the chocolate bar was my first and the Rubix Cube I did a little after the TV.

Oh hey, whadya know, it didn't work Here, I'll make the chocolate bar clickable, if that will even work. Just seems to be that one album that won't work correctly...Guess you'll have to make due with copy-pasting.

Well instead of using the image adress, have you tried right clicking youre picture and then clicking copy image adress? Or is that what you do and get the same result? And about your most recent post, the second image worked, but the first one didn't, and when I checked its image adress, the it had the file name in the image... I don't know what happened there, but hey, the image posted!

I believe something messed up in my photobucket account and the URL won't work for a certain album. So there's no fixing it, I'll just save the images to a different album next time because the Rubix Cube was in a different album and it worked. And I also tried right-clicking, copy image address, etc.. Nothing works, just a faulty URL or somethin'...

@Maindric
You must be on a noob slap or moderation atm because I did not see your post until now But thanks for the crit. Unfortunately, they images won't work in tags And the good things you listed, I try especially hard to do those things when playing around in Blender. And #2 on your bad things list, all I can say is lol. I figured it didn't look right but I'll fix it later. Then save the screenshots in a different album so you can look at them without copy-pasta.

And here's a pic of a model I made with the help of a tutorial. Only textured it, no UV maps. His name is Jeff the Gingerbread man. Forgive me if the image doesn't work

**If this is a double post, my appologees, I got an error when I hit post...**

This is my new account due to my old one's email getting hacked, so to retain control I decided to get a new account, hence noob status.

The img did not work when I tried for some reason... After my noob status disappears, I will see why it failed, till then, I am stuck wondering....

As for the new model. Looks pretty good! A bit smooth in the body, and not proportioned 100%, but it is not a bad model.

The images won't appear because Apollo's bbdecoder doesn't like spaces (or %20) in the url.

In photobucket, remove the space between the album name, as this (3d%20Models) is your problem.

Thanks BiggAdd, I'll remember that.

I'm working on a limo atm. Here's some screenshots of it so far. Any advice on improving it would be great. Gonna add the wheels later. These images should work.

I also got a couple questions regarding Blender.

1. Is there a way to count vertices and polys other than manually doing it?
2. Can you add different textures to seperate parts of a single mesh? I'm pretty sure you can but confused as to how to go about doing it.
