Well, I realize that as a business, TGC has to protect themselves from negative publicity. However, people who post in the forums here do not reflect TGC in any way, so aside from keeping a "nice place" on the internet, I don't see the reason for the AUP. You have copyrights and licenses and terms and whatnot, and that's all understandable. However, the "Acceptable Usage Policy" itself is nothing more than a set of rules to keep the forum in order. So, why have it? This isn't intended as a troll, think of it more as a little prod to stop being sheeple. Replies aren't necessary, as no non-rhetorical questions were asked.

I may be going out on a limb here, but perhaps they have the AUP because they want a nice orderly place on the internet?

Because, without AUPs, you get 4chan. And nobody wants that.

Has there been an influx of retarded threads lately? When I saw the "16 and hairy" thread I just about fell off my chair, partly from laughing, partly from disbelief.

Okay, back to the point. Why have laws in real life then? I mean, geesh, we can govern ourselves right? Anarchy isn't over rated at all!

Reality check. If people in RL can't govern themselves, imagine what a group of internet user's would do. Oh wait, you don't have to imagine it, it's called 4chan.

Somebody else already pointed this out but I'll do it again.

You make no sense.

You said:

Quote: "However, the "Acceptable Usage Policy" itself is nothing more than a set of rules to keep the forum in order."

Yes, that is true.

Um.. you just told me why we have it. Or am I missing something? It's to keep the forum in order.

If the forum was full of spam and flame and such, new people would see this. Then they will realize that the community that SHOULD help them will just tell them "hA! u'z n00bz, i eatz you for foodz." and that will cause a lack of sale of products because the community (Where you go to with questions) just makes it unbearable.

To prevent that, there are a set of rules which must be followed.

@Black Rebel Heart- Any page on yw is blocked for me.

@Mahoney- What are rules 1 and 2?

@Jeku- Sometimes, it's best to let loose. Not a single traditional forum on the internet seems to allow that.

Brick, I believe you're searching for something that can't be found even on a canvas waiting for paint.

If you seek freedom, you have forgotten what imagination can really accomplish.

I'd like you to use either a spoon or a fork to eat your food for the next week, but not the other. Doesn't matter what food.

Draw a picture using only one basic shape the whole time.

Write a simulation using nothing more than letters and numbers? (lol, DBPro).

Freedom is a state of mind. You are capable of doing things beyond human comprehension simply because there are no names for most of the things we are capable of doing.

Take for example Glue and think about it. It can do more than stick objects. It hardens overnight and can become a puppeteering object. It is a very odd ink but can be used to write messages. Invisible glue can write textures instead of messages.

Do you see where I'm going? Unless you can imagine 1000 or so possible things you can do with anything you see, you still have to realize something within yourself about concepts, freedom, and boundaries. That is, there are no concepts. There is no lack of freedom, and boundaries are perceived limits simply because nobody goes past a certain point by their own desire or choice.

What's the point of freedom if all that we spout is garbage anyway? Why not do something productive or educational instead.

Hey BB, If you want a place (i.e. forum) where just about anything is possible, then check out bbs.freetalklive.comit is a run as part of a liberty oriented website that believes that society could function quite well without "government".

And sometimes it isn't. A traditional forum needs its own agenda, not a clash of everyones own agendas; which is something which would descend into total chaos - with spammers, trolls etc. Of those which aren't governed, some can be trusted with the responsibility, but also many cannot, and that is why there need to be rules.

Not to mention, TGC can do what they want with their privately owned forums

wow, er, wow.

Why have rules?, iv never thought about that. I know Ill live by my own rules,

Walks to the closest gun shop, 129 miles away FTW

Buys a tac12 kills the owner takes monies and more ammo

walks to niegbours kills them takes more monies, steals car.

OAP, a hot chick and several men's blood co-agulate over my bonnet as i make my way to the nearest shopping centre.
Drives into the place, pulls a backflip in the car up the escalator several more mess's on the bonnet,
Walks into game, unspeakable horrors take place, leaves and takes more monies and a new GTA game

Life, it anit a game.

Dont like it, tough

I think i made my point##

Well TGC is a real company, and if there's no control over content then lawsuits can arise. They're covering their butts

I think you missed the answer in the midst of your question.

The AUP is there for the benefit of people who want to discuss the products and game-making. They don't need imbeciles making it a place that is impossible to find answers to their questions. In the past this place had less rules, and the mods had less powers. We lost a lot of good people who just couldn't be bothered to battle against the jerks anymore.

If you want to post meaningless, irrelevant rubbish, there's plenty of other sites.

Such as www.Batvink.com!!

Hmm

*runs*

On a serious note though, I have been at this community for a long time now, and since the introduction of tighter rules, although unpopular with some, the forums have become a tight knit, helpful place where you can confidently post newcomer questions, help or just general discussions. Like Batvink says, there are other places you can go. We have a pretty good place here and most of us round here are pretty smart people and can come on the forums looking for a specific fact or for a discussion, and we can usually find it.

In summary, the rules work (In my opinion)
