So...who's going to be using Classic for the comp? Do you think this will be a huge handicap? Or will the comp be based more on originality and execution than bells and whistles?

I'll be using classic methinks, even though I could use the time limited Pro version on offer. I guess it's what you're comfortable with.

The winner of the last compo was written in DarkBASIC Classic, and so was the 2nd place entry. The 3rd place entry was written in DBPro.

I think that DBC entries still have a pretty good chance of winning, although you won't be able to use many special effects, however I doubt that many DBP entries will make heavy use of shadows, shaders, cube / sphere mapping etc.

this all go`s back to what better classc or pro.the facet is pro is the sames as Classc it just has cooler toys.

pro has date type that will cut your programing time down but that the ownel real bones you get.

Actually, that isn't exactly true when I was deciding whether to go Pro or classic. I tested them by telling each one to create 30 spheres and the pro one executed them all in about twice the speed as the classic version.

From a speed point of view Pro will pee all over classic every time. But that's not a lot of use if you don't know how to use it. Game play is key and gameplay will win this competition. Not effects.

Cheers,

Rich

Like usual, I'm using Dark Basic Lite (might get Classic Electronic in 2 weeks, by what The Toker said about the remakes competition prizes.) I might switch to Pro, because I'm getting it as a birthday present (which will be about 4 weeks after my birthday.)
