There would be [a lot more], but since the majority of actual games these days are aimed squarely at males, very few women probably find them interesting enough to consider making their own. Because after all, I imagine the majority of us wanted to make games after playing other games. So if girls/women aren't catered for in games that interest them, then fewer of them will receive that initial 'stimulus' to make their own.

If the game market were more gender level, we'd probably have an equal or near-equal male/female balance. Possibly a bit less than equal because of the maths / computing aspect of it (two areas that are traditionally 'gender uncharacteristic' for women. I'm not saying that's necessarily correct, but traditionally/stereotypically, fewer women enter maths and computing fields to begin with)

It doesn't matter to me but there is definitely more males on the Darkbasic forums.

But I don't judge people by their nationality, color of their skin, or by their sex... I judge people by their code.

Maybe TGC could broaden it's appeal to the casual market by introducing life coach/ pet simulation elements to the shooting aspect of FPSC. A pedometer could be used to track the player's movement, a balance board could be used to make the player jump and a nunchuku-inspired peripheral could be used to insert keys into doors, as opposed to the traditional "Press ENTER to use" function. This is the best idea EVER and core gamers will definately prefer the new hardware to their crappy control pads and qwerty setups. And while the graphics couldn't compete with the competition, the gameplay will be enriched by non-arbitrary swinging and flailing. As I said, this is NOT cowtowing to the casual market, as hardcore gamers will definately dig the new controls!

Women are crazy into casual games, and have almost a majority of its audience (if not a majority).

Female programmers are vastly outnumbered by men, though. At my current job there's 1 female for every 4 male programmers.

Well done for perfectly demonstrating how narrow-minded the games industry and its customers are.

I believe one of the first really well made RPG games in DB was built by a female. I forget her name, but a screenshot of her game is still shown on the DB main page. It's the one with the green monster creature...though she switched to Blitz 3d soon afterwards(this was before DBP, so it was a step up really).

My wife is a Kingdom Hearts fanatic. She's also really into WoW, Lego Star Wars and browser RPG's. I actually know quit a few girls who are big gaming nerds.

Edit: After a little searching, here is a demo of her battle system:

I wonder whatever happened to those projects, I was very eager to see the projects they had planned quickly.

She also released the source code on her website, sadly the site no longer exists, otherwise I'd be studying her code.

Arguably Blitz 3D is still a 'step up' considering its speed and comparative lack of bugs. But yeah, that's beside the point.

Well I can't speak for the forum, but since female gamers would brought up in general, I can say that I know quite a few. Most of the people in my group of friends are fairly heavy gamers, and 90% of the girls I hang out with are into them as well. A few are coders as well, one of which I had in a C++ class with me.

I guess that my particular group of friends is why I could never fully understand the stereotypes about the gender of gamers, and I suppose, referring to a reaction I got from an online friend or two, the stereotype about female gamers/coders being reclusive, unattractive, etc, any variation of that one always blows my mind, as that's definitely not the case with the people I know.

Damn stereotypes.

Couldn't resist. For the record, I have absolutely nothing against the Wii or the casual market. (Well, to some degree.) I'm thinking of buying one actually.

Quote: "

Yeah, except I never said girls. I said the 'casual' market, which; compared to the core market, has a higher percentage of female gamers. Anyways, I've had my crappy joke, so I'm gonna back out now before I get pulled into another casual vs. hardcore argument.

No, that is awesome.

My girlfriend does not do games or computers, though plenty of my friends who are girls are both gamers and tech savvy.

I think TDK was a girl. Is that who I'm thinking of? I don't remember. Someone that was suggesting an open source mmo on game design theory, and then it actually got pretty far in by other people.

Tinker Girl was amazing, too bad she's gone. And Vicky is of course very talented. There was at least one other girl I remember, though no idea on the name.

From the way my brain functions their are not alot of female gamers out there. Like when im playing CoD online their will be about 10 guys talking and then all of a sudden a girl talks and everyone is like... uhh... wait...a girl? Then everyone just starts flirting with her and agreeing to everything she says... but thats besides the point.

Unless she's also pretending just to make me happy while I'm 3.500 miles away and me hearing she enjoyed a few games from the people we live with, I think that's not the case.

It's not just women today that play games a lot. When I was a kid my mom and I played many an Infocom text adventure together. When graphical games became mainstream she kinda lost interest in them until I introduced her to Ultima 7. She loved that and started buying all the cool RPGs. When we got the internet we both played Diablo, Ultima Online, Runescape, and World of Warcraft. Right now she's bored looking for a new RPG to play. Right now she's 57 and still a gamer.

The equilibrium team moved onto other smaller projects like chaos moon and another one. They looked beautiful, but were not finished unfortunately. I believe a lot of the mojomagik team have relocated around the world, and am not sure of their status as far as game development.
