Hey guys, I plan on making a trailer for my game, and I currently use fraps. It works fine with other programs, but it lags FPSC very badly. I don't know if it's my PC or not, but it is pretty old. Fraps lags the frame rate from 33fps to like 16fps. Here are my PC specs, see if you guys have any recommendations for high frame rate video recording software. Prefferably free. However, I have tried Snagit9 and Camstudio, they aren't very good either.
AMD Anthlon 64 Processor
3500+
2.2GHZ
1.5GB RAM
256MB ATI Radeon XPress 200
200GB Hard Drive, 160GB External Hard Drive

Anyone have recommendations?
-Adrian

I'll check it out, thanks.

EDIT: Sorry, but Debut Video Capture lags lots more than fraps and just won't do. Thanks for trying though.

ATI Radeon Xpress ? Ive never heard of that graphics card before but im not gunna say your lieing. All I know that most video recorders lag, Fraps seems to be fine for me though no matter what fps rate I put it in, All I can reccmomend you for is camstudio, its a free desktop recorder , to record a game with it you wold have to turn off display mouse

I use Camstudio, Here is alittle tip that might help, Even though the game may run at say 800x600 and your desktop resolution is like mine at 1080p. The video will still record the 1080p Size, its just stretching the 800x600. So Try Actually changing your desktop screen resolution down to 800x600 then record, i think your graphics card will play a big part to this also. Im using an Nvidia 260 GTX 896 mb

I started using "Auto Screen Recorder 3 Free" It doesn't record sound, but I haven't had much problems with it either.

What resolution are you capturing at with FRAPS? It's best to capture at a 1:1 ratio for your intended output resolution.

So if you're video is destined for 640x480, build your game first and set this resolution in the setup.ini. Then fire up FRAPS and capture at "full size". This puts MUCH less strain on the system then say, capturing at 1280x1024 then resizing down later. Plus your videos will be much sharper this way.
