Ok, I just tested my system with the newest 3D Mark. My overall score was 4339.

Pentium 2.2Ghz
1GB RAM
FX 5800
Windows XP Home

I'm guessing that's a touch slow for what I've got. I mean, seeing as my card is top of the range, only being out-performed by the ultra version and the brand new FX and ATI, I'd expect it to pump more than 15 FPS on some of the demos.

I really can't figure out what I need to do to get the card running. It's still well below it's peak performance, I'm sure.

Anyone else used V3 of 3D Mark? What score did you get?

I think just over 1000 I can't remeber exactly.
Most of the demos run well under 5fps

800mhz duron
512mb ram
fx5200
xp home card locked up in win98se

Don't know why yours is slow, is it a fresh install of xp?

is it a fresh install of xp?

That's a laugh in itself! Microsoft and their piece of sh*t activation system means I can't reinstall without phoning them up and explaining why I'm trying to activate again and requesting a new key, or whatever. I used to reinstall my OS at least every 2 or 3 months, but I can't with XP, because of that hole sh*tty system. I assume you're running a non-100% legit copy?

As for the performance, I'm not complaining. It's still good on most of the demos, but I've just overlocked by another 100mhz, and it's still exactly the same speed, so there's something very wrong with my card. Doesnt look like the overclocking is actually working.

Whats wrong with phoning them - they just ask for your name and possibly your address - I do that with Office XP every so often (change of hard drives) - had no problem with them.

defrag your HDD... you'd be surprised at just how much speed you can gain.
Also converting your current disk form FAT32 to NTFS is a very good option (but make sure you backup your important data safely on another drive just in case)

as for the Overclocking you have to actually set the cards clock, set apply on reboot then reboot your machine so the BIOS itself clicks in the new clock frequency.
That said the 3DMark03 doesn't actually allow nVidia cards to be overclocked whilst your using it - dunno why just doesn't allow it.

4,330 isn't too bad to bad from the 'mx' version if you had a ti i'd say to expect a good 1,000-1,500 extra ontop of that ... but for your current card its pretty good

--- --- ---

as for your activation problem, there are quite a few tech sites that explain howto alter your version of Windows between each of the versions when you copy the CD - if you change its serial to XP Pro you then don't have to worry about activation.
It's what i did with my XP Office Standard because it bugged me that i spent like $30/month on phonecalls simply to reactivate the stupid thing.

Hard disk is defragged and am on NTFS. Also, I've forced the reclocking of the card and rebooted, and it's registered in windows. Still, I think the tell tale sign something is wrong is the fact I can crank the clock rate up a ton and the heat is the same. For some reason, it can't be overclocking.

As for the standard and ultra version differences, the only difference is clock speed. If I overclock this one to the speed of the ultra version, I should get similar performance, but I'm getting exactly the same performance. And I can't imagine 3D Mark can override the BIOS/Drivers and reset your clock speed while running the demo and then switch it back afterwards. That doesn't make any sense!

As for Windows, I think I'll have to look into that. This whole activation thing hasn't stopped piracy - it's just made it more awkward for people with legit copies to reinstall. Microsoft software is probably the only software in the world where it's more beneficial to have a copied hacked version on a scratched CD-R than it is to have the original.

Try disabling memory hogging services and stuff in startup (msconfig) you don't need, you may want to read this article but remember to make a note of any changes you're make :-

My system is currently running on minimum services. Notice RPC has a LOT of dependances (hence the recent exploit worm!).

thats not a bad score fallout 3d mark 2003 is seriously demanding but make sure you have latest graphics, motherboard, sound, and agp vxd driver and the latest version of dx9 although you probably have already done this, also compare your score to other systems you will see it's not as bad as you thought.

It must work differently becaue it is an oem version on a laptop. Just install it and it doesn't need activating. You can do it as many times as you like.

I have only just installed it on a desktop (laptops grafics card is broke) and it needed activating. Didn't think that it could cause problems if I try to activate it again.
