When modeling terrain can you make it in one part.
Or do you need to cut it up in to sections like
you have to do with Fpsc.

Thanks

This is an easy way to make random terrain in X10 (assuming you know how to model). If you donĀ“t, I included a free segment to get you started and to better understand how it works.

@mickeyb

I made a 1 piece terrain for FPSC X9 a while back which I just tested last night and imports perfectly in X10 with v109.

I used T.ED and made it low poly to accomodate X9's performance but there is no performance drain in X10 so you could use a pretty nice terrain model

I noticed FPSC X10 has a much better portal system than X9 because I remember that taking a while to build and its WAY faster in X10.

To be honest I haven't tried terragen

A bunch of people have been talking about a free terrain generator tool in the link below. It exports to .obj so you'll need to convert the mesh from .obj to .x though.

I've just downloaded terragen classic and terragen 2 free edition so I'll let you know if I have a preference after playing with them.

With that program, how would you go about including the textures in X10?

I haven't actually tried this yet but I recall Lee saying that multi textured entities were now supported in v109 so leaving the terrain .fpe texture field blank should work if the terrain editor does not allow exporting to a single texture.

Any textures generated by the terrain editor would need to be converted to .dds if they cannot be exported in that format natively.

With T.ED its possible to create a single texture for a terrain providing its not too big which is ideal for the FPSC map editor grid size. Also the terrain can be made static which allows for lightmapping and better collision.

The terrain pictured in my email above has 100% working player collision and enemy collision works with the ground but they walk through the sides of the mesh where there are slopes.

Feel free to download it here to check out the files.

I recommend placing the entity on the bottom left map editor grid square on level 7 so the water level can be adjusted correctly.
