I made a great 3d anniversary card for my grandparents, only to find when I ran it on the vista computer my dad will bring, it brings up an error saying something along the lines of "dll 'd3d_dx9.dll'
not found!"
my dad doesn't want to download dx (he insists it is why his old computer broke), so is there any way to simply include those dlls without installing it?

At this point, I'm pretty sure that the only way to get it to work is to convince your pop that direct x 9 did not mess up his last computer.

There's something in this room that makes you can't speak well.

Then my advice is to take his computer and tell him he's not allowed to use it anymore.

Or you could just remind him that there are millions of people around the world that use DirectX 9 without any issues.

Install WineD3D wrapper into Windows xD
Seriously just tell your father that Windows is crap anyways and there is chance that anything you install will mess it up so just install the damn DX9.

Maybe you could make a video of it instead, not ideal but it would get the job done, maybe even put it on a DVD for them as a keepsake.

Just make an installer for the app that also copies the d3d9.dll into system32 folder.Use Clickteam Install Creator and make a silent installer so noone can see what the app is installing.

Search your system for d3*.dll and copy everything to his system32.

Hmm... why does my XP system have DX10 DLLs?

WindowBlinds. All the effects are software based. Wish I could get rid of that 2px grey bar to the left of the address combobox, it's quite passively annoying.

DX probably installs them even though they're not usable - easy way to simplify the installation (and allows apps that depend upon them to error and say "DirectX 10 compatible video card required" rather than just dying from missing DLLs)

That's a good point.

And, yes, it's very, very efficient. It's only blurring titlebars and window borders. That's not much for a background process. It uses hooks to intercept all messages that trigger the drawing of windows and uses its own drawing system that's faster than Microsoft's. The biggest difference is that unresponsive windows don't have the trails any more.

cool i might get that... for my computer. I am tired of those annoying trails and blank windows. but it is fun to make a window really small and then draw a picture.

Anyway, I just abandoned making it work and just decided to remake it in a DVD software (which, ironically, is on the computer without dx)

It only seems to have that effect on some graphics cards... must be some odd acceleration technique. On some systems it leaves a single "print" of the window every time it is released but doesn't blur.

You could do it using darkbasic classic, which runs on dx7 i think.
If you dont hav it, then you could give me the files and i will see if it works.

If you can't find it, code it yourself!

I have dbc and dbpro. I already thought of that, but dbc cannot do the shader effects that are in the app.

Try copying d3d_dx9.dll to the folder in which the .exe resides. However, there's probably other dx9 dlls also needed, so you'll need to fine out which ones.

Like I suggested earlier, copy every dll found by searching d3dx9*.dll.
