hello everyone, im fairly new to this game making world. ive been playing around with FPSC (free) and its a good engine. but i wanted to expand my horizens, so i bought 3D Canvas Pro, and the DarkGame Studio package. ive been doing alot of research on programming, and what not, and that dosnt seem to be the hard part for me. ive played around with various modeling programs, and i just cant seem to figure them out. i made a TV today, which was my first creation, although it was far from impressive, i felt great. but basically, im incredibly interested in modeling, programming, ect.. but i need to know where to go to learn how to use this modeling software i bought today, if it dosnt come with any kind of tutorials. any useful advice would make me a happy man. thanks for taking the time to read this post, and i hope no one was annoyed by the noob posting something. thanks.

Don't take this as being rude but have you tried searching google? And if you have and still didn't find anything then try searching for general things on modeling/programming. Such as "3D Gun Tutorial" or "Game Programming Basics". Then take what you learn and apply it to your modeling program or programming program. Then you can start learning more and more advanced topics. So try to learn the basics (What 3D Coordinates are/Data Types/What Objects are/UV Maps/etc.), then expand. Hope this helped and good luck!

Use Google first... it's not rocket surgery!

Sickly one way to look at making models it to imagine that you have a big block of clay in front of you, you cut bits away until you end up with something like you want this would be how the car companies would do.

Or the big trick is not really the shape, its the textureing.

for example:

say you want to make a crate, you've seen lots of ways in the forum, However the big trick is could you take a cube and make the texture look like a crate.

When you have the skills to do that then any item is possible.

So find the model and paint package that you can work with, then mess about with them until you can make any shape and texture you want in a few clicks and work form there.

sorry there no fast track.

Make sketches to keep the intended ideal fresh in memory. Especially when making complex models. You have no idea how easy you can get lost when making complex models without a solid idea on paper to look at and work from.

That's the way it works for me anyway.

yea.. ive been searching google, and these forums for tutorials, and other advice. ive looked at alot of different tutorials on modeling and programming. played around with all of them, tried all the tutorials out. i know its nothing ill learn in one night, i just basically wanted to know if there was something i was missing. im trying to use the joan model tutorial, but i cant seem to get the program im using to load images as a background to work from. i could try to free hand it i guess by looking at the picture on my secondary monitor. either way, thanks guys.

For the most part, you can look at other tutorials from Blender, 3DSM, Maya and Softimage, and just translate it to 3D Canvas Pro. When it says to extrude, extrude. When it says to bevel, bevel.

yea. im trying that. i guess my biggest problem is learning where all the different options are. luckily, my brother brought me his copy of 3d Studio Max 9, and it comes wtih some good tutorials, and videos. im using that right now. made all the chess pieces save the knight. the muscles on the horse were giving me problems, so i quit for the night (tonight). gonna give it another shot tomarrow, and the next day, and until i get it. im going to learn this one way or another.
