I mean, it takes my computer 10 seconds to even write one character to the screen! And don't even mention scrolling to me...

Fortunately, I have notepad. I just type in here and copy and paste stuff into the post windows. But the point is, IT IS WAY TOO SLOW!

Why don't we have a mini site which runs these forums but in super simplified-o-vision? like, just text? That way, we get the same forums, but running faster.

PS: it took me 10 minutes to post this message.

I hate these new look forums.

i must admit that the pages do seem to take longer to load than the old site.

you must remember that that would be client side lol. what are your pc specs? is it faster than a Pentium 75mhz? If so, try freeing up some memory, or defrag your hard drive.

It's actually faster then the old ones, execution time: 0.0194 - and that's pretty damn fast.

Yeah these are very fast, you must remember the email virus is slowing some networks down, it may just be that one server you have to go through is on a go slow until the emails are cleared.

well, on my 56k this whole website has always been slower than usual, whereas other websites (e.g. google), i havent seen a change in their speeds.

at work, on our 2meg adsl line, the site is pretty fast (type it in, press enter, and its loaded within 2 seconds max). then again EVERYTHING is fast on a 2meg adsl line

This is faster then the old one. The thing that gets me is that the title frame reloads every time you move around, that causes slightly longer loading times, but it's no big deal. Methinks your rig needs a slight upgrade... or are you on a 28.8k modem perhaps?

These forums are definatly faster for me.
If it's taking ages to even type on character there is something going wrong somewhere what browser and version are you using? Perhaps there is something on the site it doesn't like.

If it's taking an age to TYPE then nothing other than the Javascript on the post form can cause it. Enable slim forum mode in your profile to get rid of the left menu. I'll think about adding a "no JS" post form box for older PCs/crudier browsers.

Rich

Oh well, life goes on.

I'll add a few more forum display options to control the post form, the threads per page and the messages per page, but basically that's it.

Ahh yes, messages per page is once thing this was definately lacking. Also a little button on the thread listing that automatically goes to the last page in the topic is also missing but that isn't as nescessary anymore because I can just set my posts per page to a gazillion

I've begun to notice some speed hit too though maybe not with the forums, it could be the rendering. The others were v. light on graphics.

"Thge tohers were v. light on graphics."

These have virtually the same KB worth of graphics actually. It's all CSS.
