YES it is true.
But its only for 1 Academic year and renders have a watermark (to my knowledge anyways) So you can only have it for 13 Months before it runs out.

Good price though
If i didnt have 3DS Max i would have bought it

$95!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

sounds like a ridiculous load of money when blender is free and will accomplish pretty much anything you ask (ive never seen nor used maya so it may be worth it, im just saying its a lot of money for a modeller)

thats nothing, the ultimate version is something like $9000+. the reason it costs so much is that it has LOADS more to offer than something like blender. i've used it and was amazed. i never even used most of it's functions but the list was enormous! also, you can program C++ plugins for Maya (which i did for a job last year) and this allows its functionality to be extended even more. i know you can program python plugins for blender, but it's still nothing like Maya.

Blender's very powerful, but does not offer even a fraction of the features you'll find in apps like 3ds Max and Maya. Furthermore Max and Maya have an ENORMOUS number of books, DVDs, tutorials, plugins, etc. that are available for them.

$95 is a lot of money for a 3D animation suite?

Softimage - $2,995
3ds Max - $3,495
Maya - $1,995 (Complete) / $4,995 (Unlimited)

I think you've been spoiled by open-source software. Either that or you don't have a job.

Pro Desktop isn't designed for Game Modeling. Its a CAD application, for Engineers.
