I know almost everyone hates Blender but I was wondering if someone could help me. I've been trying to open FPSC characters in Blender and as far as I know it should work because Blender can work with X-Files, but it isn't. The command console says the models are imported successfully, but sure enough in the 3D editor there's nothing there. Why isn't this working? How can I make it work?

I might've put this in the wrong place but I thought since it regarded FPSC models not opening... If it is would a mod please move it?

AHEM!

The character files can't be imported into blender for strange reasons. I think it is the version of the DirectX encoding. I think the character models are encoded with Direct X9 format. Blender exports and imports Direct X8 encoded files. Of course I am not 100% sure on this except that Blender's DirectX exporter and importer were design for DirectX 8. with that said you should try fragmotion for the character files.

I see... I miiiiiight try converting the FPSC files into a different 3D format that Blender can import using an external converter first, seems like a cheaper alternative than spending $50 on Fragmotion when I don't even know the initial problem. Thanks Gamer X.

Not by a long shot. Not if you know how to use it, at least. Blender is actually far ahead of Milkshape, Google Sketchup, and all of the other modeling programs that seem to be so familiarized on these forums.

But as GamerX mentioned, Blender and Direct X have never gotten along with each other But, a new .X exporter patch for Blender can be found here. I haven't had the chance to mess around with it yet, but maybe it can help you out. Good luck!

Thanks for pointing that out Kravenwolf. I spent a while searching for a upgraded .x exporter patch but couldn't find one .

either way, I hope they make a even greater exporter and importer for the 2.5 edition of blender

Ah, I'll have to check that out Kravenwolf, thanks. (Though I don't know if it will help me with my importing problems )

I didn't even know there was a Blender 2.5 in the works, sounds great, thanks for the update Gamer X.

I hate to admit it, but as I'm getting more into all the abilities and options in Blender, my interest in FPSC is running thin.... Guess I'll have to learn to work with both

And wow this doesn't have much to do with FPSC anymore, should probably move or end it before I get in trouble with a mod

Hey I did it myselve. Use Fragmotion, it is free for 30 days. From frag, export to milkshape, then in blender import milkshape. Une ALT+A to play animation.

Have fun.

Huh? For me, it's been free for... for... I dunno how long!
Only thing is, I have to wait 5 seconds after I do something... But well, that doesn't matter.

I can see what you mean. I tried to mess with Blender myself, and it took a while to get used to the interface, but I can see how powerful Blender is, and although Google Sketchup and Milkshape are easy, they don't seem to have all the power of Blender, as Blender, I heard, is nearly as powerful as 3d max. Atleast that's what I heard. But I can see where it comes from.

I tried to import sas.x into blender and had the same problem, console said, importing.....,finished and there was nothing there. I tried multiple times and on a couple occasions i had success and model appeared, once i hit A,(deselect all) and got it to work, but it didn't work the next time, definetely buggy but possible. I also had it textured but i had to mirror the uv mesh.
Hope that helps.
