You can only really motivate yourself.

the only way i can think of is disconnect from the internet, and lock yourself in your office and have your friends give you food every now and then.

You should leave. A team leader who cant keep their team members motivated shouldn't even bother.

Tell us what the game is like and what's on level 1 (screenshots would help). We could probably help you by throwing some ideas your way for level 2 if you give us more details.

Motivation is a fascade to those without will.

You cannot simply "get" motivated as you can fill a broken bucket.

Why did you start working on this?, not becasue it was exciting and new, what was it that caught your imagination? Was it the promise of noteriety? Material posseions? or your own dreams too aspire?

Belive me you are not alone in this, i have had stagnated ideas decay over time, the mere thought of trying to pull it all together leaves me uneasy. Find what made you start this and hopefully you can rejuvenate you ideas.

I can only repeat what i have said, this thread means nothing other than to create another obstical you must pass.
I find this appropriate.

And

-remorse and I cannot help but sit and feel pathetic as my shadow looms over me. The only true time I can see myself is night, I lose that weight, I lose my burdens and I can sit contempt to stare into the distant elements that are call myself. As this would be the only real time of solsistice, for at this hour I will write a hundred poems, create a thousand characters, my novels lay unknown between the fragments of reality that I hold my own. She is my inspiration, my muse, my life is held by the seamless stars that riddle to gather around her.
Yet still the wind bothers me, its sudden acrid coldness. The world around me darkens and the moon seems distant, unforthcoming, hostile. My muse has left me, my ideas stagnated, she has taken everything from me-

I'm a bit reluctant to post here, since if you're reading this then you're not working on the game. But the simple answer is, just get it done! There's no easy way about it.

Maybe if you commit yourself to doing *something* on the game every day. If the day ends without you having worked on the game, then you've failed.

It might also help if you break down the seemingly insurmountable task of "finish the game" into smaller tasks like "draw level background" or "make cutscene". Then you can break those down and so on. That way, you can do each little task one by one, and eventually the big task will be done.

I think it might also help if you set aside some time which must be spent ONLY working on the game. If you say that you'll work on the game from 1pm to 2pm, then stick to it, then hopefully something should get done.

Well, hopefully some of that helped. Now get coding!

The only advice I can give you is to give your modem/router power supply to a close friend on the understanding you don't get it back until your work is done.

That should motivate if nothing else.

Its all based on your mindset, many people who work at home find they are less productive at home then in an office.. etc, its because of all the distractions you have at home. Like others said to take out some time to do it and unplug your internet, tv and anything else that might distract you. Also many people who own home businesses and work at home dress in a work clothes (suit and tie) to help remind them that they are working. I ve heard it is an effective technique so maybe you should try it.

working at home is hard because you associate it with relaxing.
You've got to set up a workspace that feels like a real workplace and plan a time table and stick to it. If you find you get coders block avoid doing any hobbies, do something like clean the house or go for a walk, nothing too engaging, then when you come back you'll be refreshed.

If you have a laptop, try going to the library, or some place with internet (err, without internet might be best ). That always seems to help me.

Never work until you can't stand it, take a break when you reach a landmark, while you are still putting in good work. People often work and work until they have to take a break, and then they tend not to get back to it. That way you'll want to get back to it after your break, and probably have a clearer picture of what needs done next.

If there's something that you need to work out on paper, go away from the PC to do it, it's better to walk away from the PC, sort out what needs sorted, and get back to it. The PC is 1 big distraction, take regular breaks so your not vegetating. It's easy to start work, then load up youtube and watch videos for 3 hours instead - regular breaks can help avoid that.

Get all the non-work chores done first, get up, get to the shops or whatever you need to do, then come back with nothing else to do but work.

Buy a big jar of boiled sweets (pear drops, cinnamon balls, mint humbugs etc) - these really help me concentrate, and keep me out of the fridge when I should be working.

That is a good tip. Don't think of the big picture and how hard and long it is going to take to make it. Point out EXACTLY what you have to do next. It may be modelling a rock, or writing a few lines of code, maybe creating a texture... You think of it. But it has to be something very small. Something that you can handle and do in less than 2 hours. Once completed, take a break for 10 minutes, go outside and walk around or just sit and relax. Then come back and find another small part to do. And only concentrate on that part.

Also, physically unplug your network connection. The internet will side-track you and is a bad habit to get into. Any games you have to delete. Anything that can get you side-tracked, delete.

I am going through a phase like you are with my waypoints, and what I noted above seems to work best. Motivation comes in waves, and your wave is at it's lowest point right now.
