But seriously, give it a shot. You never know until you try! Though if you were to make a bowling game, I would recommend doing it in 3D as opposed to 2D, that way you wouldn't have to worry about scaling the ball as it got farther away from the camera or anything like that.
But, if you still wanted to use 2D art, you could easily get away with a "2.5D" style, where you use flat 3D objects textured with sprites to represent your various game objects. Then you get the best of both worlds!
