The title says it all! Anyone who think it's too easy to code graphics with DarkGDK? I've been programming apps for the longest time, but when it comes to games/graphics apps I turn to DarkGDK to get the job done, but I feel like a newb when I do it. Anyone else?

Kinda. But I'm not here just to deliberately make things difficult for myself.

Zotoaster, I didn't know you were still here at all.
Where have you been?

SkYnEt,
I know what you mean, but you don't have to feel guilty... just be happy that it's free.

That makes me feel more guilty.

I'm scared of bugs. I mean that in more ways than one.

it's just as easy as we morons need it to be
c'mon we all got the plan of the next block-buster-game in our minds
let's do what we can out of it!

all day long i'm dreaming about what my game should be like
'i'll add this... and that... nice gfx too... all customizable and stuff '
yeah yeah, nice dreams! but that's what keeps us moving forward!!!

We are standing on the shoulders of giants. That's development. I'm happy that I started coding when it was not yet so easy (DOS age) because it was a very good school to live through, but exactly for that reason I can appreciate and be thankful for the tools that make it easier (not only Dark GDK). It's nothing to be ashamed of that technology changes. The most difficult thing is to keep up with it.

So many people with so much guilt.
Some one has to make the sacrifice.....so maybe it should be me.
Just so you all can stop feeling guilty at being able to use such a good tool (DarkGDK) for free, I give you all permission to send to me $100 to alleviate your guilt feelings.

I think I rather donate that 100 dollars elsewhere.
Like towards an actual charity?

A little. But the reason I use DarkGDK is because DBPro made me feel even more guilty and noobish. I'll admit that I would like to move onto something else like OpenGL/GLUT and completely stop using DarkGDK but then I see all the cool stuff that people do in flash and Game Maker (which are way more noobish methods of game development then DarkGDK) and I realize how stupid it is that I feel the way I do. The way you make something shouldn't matter. All that should matter is the end result.

Did you really just say that Flash is a more noobish method of game dev than DarkGDK? Tell that to Richard Davey. Or any of the several thousand individuals who make a living off Flash game development. How many people make a living off of DarkGDK again? Oh, that's right...

Seriously though, DGDK is way higher than Flash (and probably Game Maker too, if you make heavy use of the scripting language) on the "noobiness" scale. That shouldn't matter though, because as you pointed out, all that matters is the final product.

I think it boils down to a single question... Do you want to make games, or do you want to make game engines?

I think most people would rather make games, so take advantage of the work the people who would rather make engines have put in, and make some games . Game development these days is such a massive playing field with so many skills involved, you just cant do both - at least not well in most cases.

I made several games with opengl and noticed that loading 3ds objects is more time consuming in that language. I made a gui with opengl and alot of graphics too. DarkGTK is currently better then opengl is in my mind. Even though opengl is easy. I wonder who will make a decent gui interface for DarkGTK so we can use it.

Start Console Homebrew. C# and XNA doesn't count. Why? It was made user-friendly so that wannabe xbox 360 fanboys could start making games. And plus Microsoft charges you money.

You can start portable console hombrew for GBA, NDS, PSP, etc...
or use game consoles like Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, etc...

It will be a challenge, but you'll learn more on how a game console works. Maybe then you'll realize what is true difficulty.

There are 2 ways to develop for the N64:
1. Develop C code with PsyQ SDK and illegal Nintendo libs
2. Develop C code with legal kits, such as the Ground Zero devkit (g0dev.zip)

This is like feeling guilty for not building your own home appliances from scratch. Why reinvent the wheel? GDK is just a library like Irrlict, allegro, etc. You shouldn't feel anything but the great weight of engine development lifted from your shoulders. Not that making an engine isn't fun it's just very time consuming and you really don't need to make one unless whatever you are using is limited in a critical area.

You made the topic !8! minutes before that post and you're complaining that no one's replied to it yet? This has to be some kind of record.

Can't say I feel guilty, but I see what you mean
On the other hand, it's the game that people see, not the engine
So enjoy making the game itself and as a few has said already, it's the result that matters.

In addition, I would believe that's a question, hence you should make use of question marks, i.e.:
