You need to install an anti virus anyway because without one just visiting a website could give you a virus.

Sounds like a round about way to ask if he can target a specific IP Address

Either a) you pissed off a hacker, who proceeded to threaten you, or b) you're using utorrent/limewire and just had the shocking revelation that your IP address is free to see (you dirty pirate you).

But get anti-virus no matter what. You really can get them from safe-seeming sites. I recommend Avast! (! is part of the title). It's completely free, fast, and I've yet to get a virus.

But with Avast! you have to get a new license key every 2 (?) months (that is damn annoying) and there are these little popups which say stuff like "Virus database has been updated", it interrupts films, games etc.

You only have to get the (free) activation key once a year, and the alerts can be disabled entirely.

Most games don't give the signal to Windows to say that they're full-screen in that way and can't be interrupted (ES_DISPLAY_REQUIRED) so 99% of the time that checkbox is completely ineffective.

It works fine for me. I guess I must own the 1% of games in the world that you haven't tested this condition on.

Out of curiosity, how do you know this?

The answer to the OP's question is surely no? I've only ever experienced my anti virus (AVG) do something useful once, when it found and deleted a virus. You won't get a virus if you use your computer properly i.e. don't download one.

It amazes how many people believe this. Think about something: if you got a warning that AVG (which isn't even the best of anti-virus programs) found a virus on your hard-drive, then how many do you think are entirely avoided on the internet because of AVG?

You definitely want an anti-virus. Even safe, entirely legitimate websites can end up hosting viruses, even if only for short windows of times. As a recent example, Planet Renders, a website I visit frequently, had both their forums and main site hit, which tried to give me a virus when I visited, but Avast stopped the connection before the virus hit my computer.

Get Anti-virus...

I may have only been bugged by Avast in a game once, if at all.

Don't forget that if you use a memory stick at college/work other people are imbeciles. Most workplaces and colleges don't update their antivirus.

At least West Hill Primary (Norton), Kingsmead High (Norton), Thomas Alleynes High School (Norton) and Stafford College (Sophos) don't.

They can't update automatically because all traffic comes through the filter server and only HTTP traffic can get through the filter server and the people who work in IT can't be bothered to do it themselves.
