So I got a 2d-snakes game programmed up and I now what to move it to the 3rd dimension but not quite sure on how to get a good looking animated snake programmed in a 3d-modelller???

I was thinking...

one model for head.
One model for body.
One model for tail.

and each time the snake grows I can add another body piece.

As for animation, I was thinking....

zig-zag the models from side to side to make the snake look like it's slithering.

The questions I got is
would anyone know how to make these three models in .x format?
I'm not the greatest at say blender but still willing to try.
Would spheres look to corny???
Any ideas how to approach this idea???
Is there a certain tooll that would be used inside the modeller that would best suit the need????

Thanks,
Peace,
and
out!

theres two ways i can think of. one would be to manually animate it in the program you use using say spheres(ind DBP you would most likely use limbs) or you could do bones. im not really sure how you could add to the length of the snake if you use bones though.

I'd say use sphere's and be corny until you get the 3d programming down. You say you've already made it in 2D form, so just use sphere's as a place holder for now. Add body sections and have them follow the snake the same way you did it in 2D. No need for limbs.
