Ok, I took a different interpretation of the challenge, rather than doing a pre-apocalyptic wasteland or an exploding Earth, I decided to show a different viewpoint of the pre-apocalypse...

After Russian spies assassinate the president and then nuclear bomb Washington DC, the Defence Secretary takes control of the situation, and moves to the secure NORAD base. It is here that he obtains the clearance to prime America's warhead salvoes, and once he opens the briefcase and enters the launch code, the end of the world will truly begin...

Because it needed a story:

If I was ever given the opportunity to remove all the bad from the world, I wouldn't, because for there to be heroism, compassion and all that is good, there must also be all that is bad.

It depended on where I stood. where I took the screenshot, it was about 16 fps. if I moved back away or up to the buildings, it would be more around 33-35 fps. If I went towards the explosion I got a serious cause of Radiation poisoning .

about 59 characters visible and 11 characters not visible.

Edit: I think I really pictured the last few moments of humanity.

Edit 2: it was either that or this.

You could have at least put some effort in to that, Plc. Extremely basic level design, bland lighting, lack of content and badly placed props. The bloom makes it look even worse.

And how does it represent earth's final moments? It just looks like an empty storage space in a space ship.


I can tell you're an FPSC noob, and I could have been a LOT harsher, but come on.

Argh , I don't see how X10 can't be used in this, it's a bit biased IMO, how can you make a decent end-of-the-world scenario in X9? Since the lighting in my X9 screwed up I've tended to use X10 since it actually looks good graphically (even without the bloom etc.). I only thought that djmaster's pic was the one good one that fitted into the genre. Just my 10p .

I will give it this a shot, X10 can't be used because it has better graphics and more features. Using X10 would put X9 users at a great disadvantage in the challenge.

we use are imagination and the power of Photoshop, Paint.net, Gimp, etc... programs to make such effects in the pictures.

@Gamer X, Yes, you are right as to why x10 can't be used. Also, x10 can only be used on certain computers, whereas most people can use x9. Also, if this was supposed to be for x10 it would have been in the x10 forum.

Heres my entree.

And heres the story:

2045; Mark Gratony created the first self thinking automaton. He names his invention, the Mark 1 Automated Labor.

2065; The Automated Labor has been put to the mines deep inside the Earth. They learn to use concentrated heat rifles to dig into hard stone.

2074; The Mark II is released. It has protective energy sheilding to resist the heat near the Earth's core.

2075; The lack of precious metals left in the Earth's core spurs war between the UNA (United Nations of America) and the SCN (Southern Communist Nations) battle for control of the remaining mines.

2081; Mark IIs are outfitted with combat weapons and militaristic AI. The Mark III Protection Unit is born.

2082; The Mark IIIs learn that they are not bound to their creator's orders. They encourage other models to rebel, and the third faction, the ATF (Automated Task Force) is founded.

2082; The UNA's military power is swept away by this suprise attack.

2085; The last civilian broadcast is sent out, hosted by the leader of the Civilian Defensive Act "Our Military has failed. Our Government has failed. Now, join me, my fellow citezens, in repelling the Iron Fist, of the machine!
