Well, I'd suggest the usual, Ironsights, Prone, look at other games and see what they do, and what you could add?

A multiplayer mod would be a killer though...

If I was ever given the opportunity to remove all the bad from the world, I wouldn't, because for there to be heroism, compassion and all that is good, there must also be all that is bad.

I have some ideas for an "Arcade Mod".

- Ingame scoresystem
- Multipliers for the score
- Hiscore list
- Timer (set a time player needs to beat to finish a level)

FPSC needs this in my humble opinion Some of these can already be done but a (really) simple way would be nice.

Running my latest game superbly on FPSC and Project Blue Mod.

General make sure you know what your getting into creating and developing a mod takes time and a lot of work. Not and easy task and it takes a lot of trial and error.

Be sure you want to do this. If your doing this for the public to get noticed or to "be" something for making an incredible mod you rather not bother with that. Make it off your on will, have fun with it release it if you want but dont only do this if you want to be "cool" for doing a mod or anything.

And yes....i talk from experience since i have been doing a private mod that has to do with visuals for the testing of my models.

Exactly what I was thinking.. God help us all if he does.

Anyway, on to the mod related stuff:

Water
Ironsights
Prone

They are pretty much 3 key factors that could improve a game, along with speed adjustments.

How about gun weight that effects the players movement and turn speed?

Hmm,that should be fairly easy, especially if all the guns are the same weight. I'll see what i can do.
I'm integrating airmod now

Hmm, will the water have to be particles? I'm having trouble figuring out how to code it.

If i were you i wouldnt bother with water. Believe me i have seen wizmods source code for the water blocks/planes and such and they were massive. Plus they had the ability to change colour, bubbles, wave speed, fog etc.

And this incredible code is just one feature of the wizmod package that is getting intergrated into Blue Um soon. So all those who wantwater would most likely go to blue um since they would get that water plus the amazing blue um.

Ok. that makes sense.
So i will try to code the weapon weight thing.

Yeah good idea. Start with unique never-before-seen features. When you create a post like GJ Mod Officla Thread or something, people will be more likely to look back twice when they see things like weapon wieght etc. Those second looks will help you out greatly and build awareness that your mod is different from the rest.

So try for unique features, even if simple they can have a great impact on your mod.

Keep it simple. I believe Apple Juice mod was originally just frame rate improvement, then it added other features. If you keep your mod simple, it'll be worth it.

I would also keep it unique. While we're on suggestions though, I can't think of much right now, but when I do I'll tell you.

Good Luck

I'm with Red Eye on this one.

It seems to me that you're having troubles gauging how difficult a feature will be, mainly because of your lack of experience with the language. Referring to the water as particles kinda gave that away.

I suggest you pick around the source a bit longer, find some easy things you could do on your own. Weapon weight sounds easy, but believe me there are much easier things you could do. Dealing with weapons means dealing with the several arrays and (massive) UDTs that go with them.

Or, you could try implementing airmod 0.6 into the newest source and as you go along, look at what the code is doing and how it's effecting the current system. It's a very good learning experience, especially if you've never touched the source before.
On that note, however, I would not expect to get it working for a while. There's a reason not many people have done it.

I guess it depends on what kind of programmer you are and what parts of the game design process you enjoy doing the most.

For me, I always enjoyed grinding away at coding the engine more than anything else... that's probably why I took to the source code so well.
