I just thought it would be interesting to see what browsers everyone uses here and why. Please keep in mind that this is not a 'web browser war'. I'm starting this thread out of simple curiosity.

Along with listing the browser you use, list the features you like and don't like about it. Just to make things more interesting.

The browser I'm using right now is Opera. Previously I was using Mozilla FireFox. I switched out of curiosity as opposed to necessity, and I seem to have fallen in love with it. So...I may switch over completely.

I'll provide a screenshot:

Features that I like:

Speed Dial (shown in screen shot)--This simple 3x3 grid allows you to easily access your favorite websites. It appears when you first open Opera.

Skins--There's a great many skins and themes to choose from, and to install them you simply click on the Download link it supplies. You don't need to restart your browser in order to view the results; the second it's done downloading it allows you to see the changes. You can then choose to keep the skin. If you click 'No', it uninstalls it by default. If you click 'Yes', it adds it to your skin library.

Notes--This is a great little thing to quickly write something of importance down.

Widgets--There's a TON of neat little widgets that you can download and use.

Sidebar--This makes access to your history, notes, bookmarks and widgets easy.

Features I don't like:

Facebook loads slow, but that just may be facebook itself.

You need to download additional software for spell-checking in Opera.

Umm...that may be it.

So what are you waiting for? Post away!

Google Chrome FTW.

Seriously, everyone here uses either : Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Opera.

(There's going to be some jerk who's going to "prove" my theory wrong.)

I use Google Chrome.

I like:
- The clean, non-cluttered look.
- How each tab uses its own process so when a page crashes it doesn't crash the whole browser.
- Incognito Mode / Porn Mode

I also use FireFox. I like the how its it supports themes and addons and how when you download a file its does it silently and shows the progress in the corner.

I dislike Internet Explorer because its slow and cluttered and my mum uses it so i have to dislike it.

I actually use Safari currently. Mainly because I haven't downloaded anything else on the Mac side of my computer. If I'm on Windows, I'll use Google Chrome. I have no real complaints about either, actually.

Opera because opera.

Used to use firefox but it clogged up my small RAM sticks so I switched to opera. I have upgraded the RAM since but I see no reason to go back now.

I'm using Opera. It has built-in IRC client, "recycle bin" (all closed tabs in your session are stored there, so you can recover them if you want), mouse gestures, sidebar (even if I only use it to connect to IRC rooms) and it works fast even with 40+ tabs, GIMP, foobar and last.fm scrobbler open (on my mum's PC that's so bad that it sometimes lags on first Max Payne game)...

Make games, not war.

"So are good jokes, which came out long ago." I corrected somebody's grammar, now I can be happy with myself now that my ego is pleased, knowing each day that more and more people try to avoid eye-contact with me in the street.

Now, on topic. For some reason I can get 'moody' when it comes to browsers and I don't know why, on Vista my default browser is Safari and on Windows 7 it's Firefox 3, though for a while I was enjoying Flock for its photo-uploading and blog posting tools - as well as having multiple auto-logins (I have 3 gmail accounts for different purposes (public, private and one for my storytelling group), and it is sometimes annoying logging in and out each day).

I was using Chrome when it came out, but I had a couple of issues with it (though I expect you would when app is first out, hence the joke: 'if at first you don't succeed call it v1.0') and I've used Opera on the rare occassion to test out different versions.

Internet Explorer, I've rarely used, I still distrust it after the older versions being prone to virus downloads. Though it has perhaps improved, but I've got used to using other browsers too and know my place with things like FireFox.

The reason I enjoy Firefox is that it's quick, snappy and laid out as I like it, I don't use any extra features I might want. I know it'll ask me permission for anything that tries to download itself, so it's safe in that respect, though I realise it's not the only browser to do that. It was the browser I used straight after IE and loved it and it's what I've come accustomed to.

So you use the Chinese IE?

I use in the following order: Chrome, Opera, IE, FF.

FF is last because it's the slowest to load, uses the most memory, and youtube videos no longer work in it for some reason. Opera was first until Chrome came out, it loads faster and it's the first browser to implement what I've been wanting for years; tabs as separate processes.

Well its weird because I used to HATE IE... but on Windows 7, I dont think its that bad at all. So now im either using that or google chrome. I really only use chrome when testing webpages that require css3 elements that ie doesnt support.

Hi, it’s Robert with Stealthmod! You’ll be saying Stealth every time you use this mod! It’s like CoD! It’s like L4D! It’s like BioShock. A regular mod doesn’t work good – this works good and great.

I need Ad-block and Last Pass addons so I am using Firefox. Although for some reason my spell check doesn't work anymore

EDIT: Never mind, fixed it, with Canadian spelling to boot! Hmmm 'nevermind' isn't a word?

It's ironic how people don't use signatures for actually 'signing'. Whoops.

Yeah, I'm finding that I miss the add-on 'AdBlock Plus' from FF. That was a nice little thing to have on there, as it prevented most ads from getting through (although lately ads started reappearing).

I used to use Firefox (mainly out of hate for IE and also for AdblockPlus/NoScript), but I've been using Chrome since the beta and can't switch back.

- Uncluttered interface
- Performance is MUCH better than that of Firefox
- It's inherently designed better (for performance, that is) with it's multiple-process tabs, which really help to prevent crashes
- It's not made by Apple (Safari = Satan)

Of course I'm joking about Safari.

I used to use Firefox. 2 was awesome. 3 lost its reliability with Shockwave. (frequent crashes when the plugin was active, only that browser) 3.5 introduced annoying behaviour such as the tab bar refusing to leave and HDD thrashing.

Use Opera now. I miss plugins. Sometimes.

Oh yes, it must be a problem that manifested itself simultaneously across all four of the computers I use the instant I "updated". Nothing to do with the fact that other people are decrying 3.5 too.

Firefox until Chrome allows for add-ons. I hate IE, especially for it's inability to render web pages correctly. I lol'd when they included "compatibility mode." Why don't they just conform and let the real pioneers in web lead the way? Compatibility mode is such a classic band-aid from MS.

And of course, simply the fact that I suggested the problem may be on your end and not the fault of Firefox means I am entitled to a sarcastic rebuttal from you. And also, I got none of these errors and I've never heard anyone say any different - but because I also don't talk to the same people or have similar problems that you do, I am lesser.

But doesn't Chrome and Apple use the same base rendering engine (Webkit)?

I will take another look at Chrome. I remember finding it very responsive and quick, but I just have a hard time browsing without Adblock and LastPass. Chrome *does* support plugins but you have to enable them on the command line---- let's hope they hurry with the updates

S'OK mate. And yes, I hate British weather too.

I had a go with Chrome the other day. I'm quite impressed with its speed but I found it quite confuzzling - mind you I didn't spend much time with it. I might have more of a go at a later date.

so noone here uses lynx?

well i use firefox and on the uni systems ff and opera because for some reason they are still on ff2, and it segfaults randomly (probably flash's fault).

When you're trying to do something on a remote server though ( or really don't want any images or flash or other crap, lynx (or links if you want a bit more formatting)) serves me well.

if you're really stuck there's always wget and less (or more, or cat...)

That's cool, I didn't know that.

I can live without plugins though, I never really used them in FF. The only thing thats bothers me about Chrome is that it doesn't open .css files in browser (pretty much a must for any web developer).

Firefox. It is just good with almost everything. Maybe feels a bit slow sometimes and so, but it is still the best one I have used. Sometimes I also use IE, for the things that require it.

I wish Firefox had an option to "lock" the add-ons, because several software packages install their own add-ons without telling you, and it inevitably slows down the browser. It angers me to no end when I browse my add-ons and see ones I haven't personally installed or given permission to install. There should be a law against this practice!

Yes, and Webkit is developed by Apple. Google typically runs Chrome a minor version behind that of Safari since they have to wait for Apple to release updates in their codebase.

Chrome, because it's so freaking fast, at least compared to IE7.

Although to be fair, I gave the new IE8 a shot and it seems very fast too. By now I'm in bed with Chrome though. Every Firefox version I've ever tried seemed slow to me...

Yes it is annoying, though it was worse for IE for me at least, usually it's just a Yahoo toolbar.

Yesterday I downloaded the shockwave player for Firefox, but I could swear it intalled Norton Scan as well, at least that's the only thing I downloaded yesterday and for some reason I just suddenly had Norton soon afterwards. Though a couple of days ago I installed Raptr, so maybe it came with that and I hadn't noticed until a little pop-up came up.

I use Flock. It's based off of the latest Mozilla software and allows for easier social networking.

You can log into various sites in the left sidebar (Myspace, Facebook, Youtube, Flickr, etc) and it will display all the information you would get if you logged into those sites. Friend statuses, messages, etc.

There is a built in RSS reader, web clipboard, and a webmail sidebar, as well as a media bar that allows you stream stuff from Youtube and Flickr.

Downside: it's slow. That's why, on my crappy computers, I use Chrome, because it's SO FAST!

Okay, I tried to post a picture of Flock, but the forums wouldn't display it. Weird. Google it, folks!
