im attempting to make some lights in dbp for an outdoor environment. How would i make a light simulating the sun? im not talking about a model of the sun that casts lights, just a light source that creates shadows and light.. basically a big light in the sky. Ive tried various lights, but the only one that does anything is ambient light.

is it even possible to make illuminated lights?.. like a lightbulb or sun or textures that emit lights or look illuminated (say a light in an office window, or those little lights in the floor of the theatre) im not working on that yet but i'd just like to know..

One of the first things I do for an outdoor scene is convert light number 0 (the ambiant light) to a point light...

set point light 0, 0,0,0
set light range 0, 10000

then position the light wherever you like

position light 0, x, y, z

(I know that set point light can take a position, I just like to see the position set explicitly)

If you actually want to build a sun so its visible to the player. I'd advise against using a sphere. Use sprites instead. That way you can keep the polygon count to a minimum. You could also use sprites for a lens flare.

I made a sun using a plain object ghosted it and textured it with a sun picture (using transparency to hide the black) then i got it to always face the camera position.
Point Object obj num,Camera Position X,Camera Position Y,Camera Position Z

You can then position your point light where you put your plain object.

Anyway worked fine for me. Hope I could help
