Ah,Dego....

If i may i'd like to ask a question about the game.....

Does anyone know how Jimpo managed to pull off the whole.....custom character thing? I'm almost sure he didnt sit there and hand draw all those sprites - and differant combinations, and such. Does anyone have any idea how he managed to pull this off?

To clarify: He is wondering how Jimpo managed to combine different hairstyles, weapons, and other accessories to a playable "single"-appearing sprite.

Maybe he positions all the accessory sprites relative to the main player sprite and they all move togheter and appear as one single sprite. Maybe he use get Image. Maybe he has painfully assembled EVERY IMAGINABLE setup of accessories to a character and have them as single sprites. Though that would be a lot of sprites. You could ask him on his thread, but I see you've already done that and didn't have time to wait for his reply.

As for the media he used. I seem to recall him giving away his source on the main thread for this game. I think it was RPG-maker sprites he used. Also, this thread doesn't belong on this board.

My bet is that he used a 'paperdolling' method. He uses a blank sprite, which he then pastes over accessoiries on run time, which use the same amount of frames as the player sprite, thus allowing him to edit the paperdolled items in a way that they LOOK like they're on the character, while in fact they're just another sprite pasted over the other.

It's quite a simple and rather popular technique in 2D games. Most Mirage based engines use it as well.

It's not the world that turns against you, it's you that turns against the world.
