i just installed the DBP P5 and what happens? it no longer works. instead, when i try to compile and run a program, it instantly exits withu an error and sets all my windows colors to black. right now i can't see a thing i'm typing so sorry if there're typos

the only way to undo this unfortunate effect is to restart.

i had this same problem with P5B2 and i hoped they had fixed it with this. but i guess not.

i have DX9b; i just downloaded and installed it a few days ago. that didn't help P5B2 and it doesn't help now either.

this annoys me as no one else i know has these problems. i'd rell like to test out P5 but right now there's no way for me to!

i'm looking at yooooou!

What graphics card do you have and are you on latest drivers. Seems that Patch 5 likes EVERYTHING to be the latest.

When the desktop goes black after running a program, it means that a DLL that it needs at run-time cant be found (I get this whenever I forget to put any extra DLL's my plug-ins need into the project directory).

Would be advisable if you check your PATH line - make sure that it is correct and there isn't any incorrect infinite loops.

It could also mean that some system DLL's are incorrect (using older ones than they should be)

I personally am enjoying the program crashing at run time (probably an error in my own code) and then not reporting any errors or line numbers. Makes it really fun to debug.

Also, I'm enjoying the new lack of highlighting for certain reserved words (e.g. Type and As).

"Makes it really fun to debug"

sadly the programs i'm running don't need to be debugged; they worked fine with P4 and before.

i have the latest everything.

has ANYONE else had this problem? everyone else (besides fallout) seems to think P5 is the best thing that's ever happened to DBP!

hmm. i deleted all the DLLs in the compiler>plugins directory and replaced them with the DLLs from the patch and now it says, rather rudely, "NOT ALL COMPILER FILES EXIST!" and fails to compile.

...and i put the old files back, and put the new files in.... and congratulations, it did it again.

...

WOULD SOMEONE FROM DBS PLEASE LOOK AT THIS BLOODY THREAD??>?!!!

i'm looking at yooooou!

cheers indi for some reason it never occurred to me to do a clean reinstall. neeeeeevermiiiiiiiiiiiind..............

but i still have an odd problem. for some reason DBP does not like me to use the variable name time$ anymore. i know it said that commands can't be used as variable names anymore; but time is not a command. so what gives? can't use partial object names either?

i'm looking at yooooou!

rich asked if certain variables names like X#$ and any reserved words were not allowed to parse until corrected.

DT had some variables like X#$ and I had to correct them by making the variable name more than one letter and with one Variable Descriptor Extension eg: # $

I think its got something to do with a reserved word perhaps.

post a mini snippet for met to try with the problem at hand.

Is it just the word time$?

oh well. i use the variable in 2 places i'm fine with t$.

When i try to compile something, even just:

cls

it doesn't compile and the screen goes black. Any ideas why?
It worked perfectly with patch 4.1

Just what do you expect to see after clearing the screen and running an infinite loop?

Have you had a look with DXDiag - make sure that the Direct3D is working okay ?

Both Direct3D and DirectDraw work correctly!
(I don't know if that is a good or bad news)

OR it is directX problem. A friends ran a dbp program on a machine with dx7 (silly thing!) and everything went black also

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

1) Make sure that you are running DirectX 9.0b and nothing earlier. You can check this by running dxdiag.exe from your START->RUN menu.

2) Make sure that you have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for your video card. If you have an Nvidia video card, go to www.nvidia.com, if you have an ATI videocard, go to www.ati.com and install the very LATEST drivers that they have on their website.

3) Make sure that you uninstall DBPro and reinstall it from CD or upgrade from 4.1 or earlier of DBPro. DO NOT UPGRADE to UPGRADE 5 RELEASED VERSION FROM A BETA OF UPGRADE 5 THAT YOU INSTALLED PREVIOUSLY.

4) Nvidia Geforce 4 MX DOES NOT SUPPORT SHADERS, so you won't see any if you use this video card.

5) If you did a reinstall from the ground up of DBPro and did all of the above, then you might have a bug in your code and if you don't then its a bug in DBPro.

If you you did all five things and know its a bug in DBPro, please send the folowing to [email protected]

1) List in detail your System configuration (video card, video card driver version, processor, memory, hard drive space, Operating system, etc..).

2) Send some code with media that you are using thats causing the problem.

3) Take screenshots of what you are seeing (use print screen to take screenshots and paste it into MSPAINT.

4) Explain in detail what the problem is and try to get down to the point of what works and what doesnt.

As much help in your email as you can. I am in hot persuit of a U5 disappearing act with some cards and some objects. Your problem might be related. Some suggest it is the FX5600, though I have ruled this out having done a test against this card a few hours ago. It must be something else. So do not hesitate, send me your bug!
