were would be best for you? Would it be ok if i held it in the Chicago area? a friend of my family is a important worker for Hyatt and i could probably get a nice deal from him on a party room and maybe discount on rooms , and he works in the chicago area. So, were would be good for you?

I'd we willing to go anywhere on the east coast and most likely the mid US to participate. It depends on the exact place, time, and situation however, and I'd also want to see this get off the ground before I threw my dice.

I don't know if there is A) a large enough US fan base and 2) enough new technology/technquics/seminars/other convention stuff to warrant a DB convention in the US. If it was in Europe you might be abill to get Rich or Lee to show up which would at least be something. Remember a fair share of users aren't old enough to have real jobs, let alone the $400+ to buy a plane ticket.

theres is enough US users... but mattman.. you have to consider... 1) pc's 2)money.

pc's you'll need about 5-10 (depends on how many people) and they can't be sh*t ones... they need to run DBP and be able too compile.

money.. expect atleast a thousand dollars to hold this..

I haven't thought it out all the way yet, as i wanted to make sure people were gonna come yet

Computers: It would be great if peoplr could bring laptops if they have 'em, and i will look into what i can get.

Money: Yes, we will have to charge. More people, less you have to pay

laptops.... pfffff

you may wanna think it out a bit more...

i've never seen 10 people huddle around a laptop efficiently.

when i said computers.. i meant desktops... with a half decent moniter, 512 mb memory, 1.6 ghz processer speed, DarkBASIC Pro, Decent video card.. so on so forth

and one more thing.. what is the money going to.. your personal accounts, expenses for the Convention.. or what would it go to?

Arrow, there has already been a US convention. It went quite smoothly and was a very nice event. There is no reason another one shouldn't or couldn't be held.

Personally, I'd be willing to pay more if I knew it was going into PCs, computer equipment, presentation hardware, etc... I assume there would be a base entrance fee of around $20-$50 without any of that however.

Money will go to the exspenses definitly, i will make no money!

I don't know how i would work out desktops... anyone got some ideas?

I planned out what we will do last night, and will post it later today probably.

And jimmy, just come and don't be a stubborn loser. I will not be the only one, i will have all of the dbcommunity helping me.

I was also planning on having a compitition. Anyone want to help me judge? I need 4 more people to help me. Unfortunitly, you cannot jusdge and enter the contest ,so remember that.

And if people are willing to give lectures in a field they feel they are excperianced in, tell me. The one's i had down were GFX, the development process, creating a better team, what now? ( a lecture on how to expand your code to be better), better coding (how to make your code better and faster), and anything else you guys reconmend.

You wouldn't find my ass anywhere near that thing, seeing as i hate that part of the USA, then again... i don't enjoy any part of the USA, but i'm stuck here for 1 more year.. so i'll deal with it(i could leave now but i'd rather finish school quickly).

and Jimmy, if i didi it... the depot os only 35 minutes from you.. so you would have it so easy, lol. But i couldn't hold it for the reason that the nearest aitport is Erda, and its only a small airport, SLCIA is an hour away, to far to make people travel.

personally i think that you guys should wait for either RGT to get back on thier feet again to hold next years, or you could wait for another TGC associate company to do such.

usually find that individuals that try to setup conventions have them fail cause they oftenly lack the organisation skills that people who run companies tend to have for such events.

it is some work to get a place, figure out a fair price, cough up the cash in the first place, setup a few machines to work, setup the snack needs (or hire a barman for the place) ... really if you were sensible you'd pick a Lan Gaming Arena, which is why i suggest Nottingham or London for the UK convention as they both have very large Lan Arenas setup for gaming needs - for a retainer they allow you to also install software needed and such.

It solves 2 major problems hiring places like such, first is computers (as they tend to have around 32-64 machines in places like this all of very high athlonxp/pentium4 grade with damn'd good graphics cards and ram) - second being food & drink which they oftenly have a kiosk there selling stuff you need.

you can also hire these places for entire weekends and are allowed to sleep at them ( i've done this a few times on Lan Parties )

add to this it also means that if anyone isn't particularly interested in DB/DBP stuff and more in the social aspect they have a place where they can sit and talk, or even just have some frantic games of stuff like Warcraft3/CounterStrike/JediKnight2/etc...

-- -- --

i mean it is just an idea after all, but if i remember these places usually cost like $400-500/day which shared between around 20-30people is around $15-20 a head, which no doubt people would be more than willing to fork out.

ahh LGA's.... i woulda never thought of that.. i've been to one.. but haven't gotten any time to travel to any other CS LAN battles, but if you could organise one aorund chicago(which i'm sure there''s one in chicago) you may have a bit of a convention....

on a side note..

Raven said exactly what i was thinking (rare occasion ).. "wait for RGT to get back on there feet"... or somthing to the liking

against bribes... lmao. i must be seeing a different indepentdent party then..

but remember i said most independents... bacause there are some who are truthful to some of your words(you'll never see that in a republican)

but as you can see i am not a fan of the goverment in the US.. i find it a pathetic excuse.. the party system just seems to lead to murder, fighting and hatred. the Republican and democratic partys are like religions.. but instead of saying what we belive in.. they decide what we do and who the hell runs what.

In the State of utah the mormons do run the stae, every republican is mormon.. every mormon is republican, and it is a real govermental mess around here.. the govener is baka, and the mayors all follow him like a messiah. Some of you may not be aware but this main street plaza deal inutah really show how mucha goverment is like a religion. The mormons have purchased main street and it kinda make me sick that i can't walk talk or sing or listen to the kind of music i want while there. i get arrested for it because main street is mormon property. The damn republicans gave it it them. and what do the democrats do.. sit on there ass, complain in do nothing about it. Me what did i do.. tried a petition, good lot of help that did in a f*cking state that is 85% mormon. So if theres anything that explains my recent hatred.. it's that.

now.. sorry for bringing this off subject...way off subject.

That's why I'm Independant, they are againsts party politics, they won't vote for a party only the issues.

As for Mormons, one of the most open mined, intellegent person I know is Mormon (though she's been condended by the churh). Personally I really dn't like generalization. I know I'm guilty of it too, but it's to easy to condem the action of a few as the many. Besides that, it can almost sound prejudice, with is my one taboo.
