Since im bored and have some free time im working on a building based on Johnfletcher's Pie Shop

Obviously i tooks some liberties and and the model is still not done, im going to mix in some techniques based of this polish tutorial as well as some texturing to make it look all fancy and such, ill probably take a stab at wow styled textures though it should be intresting i am still really working on my textureing skills and my traditional art skills in general

@Dragon
looks great!
One thing I would point out is the skirting stones are bevelled into the building's side, it gives quite a different look.
Are you going to make the roof jagged so you can have those wonky tiles?
This will look awesome once finished. Do you have any plans for the model?

Mastermanofjustice> Im counting the window as one of those artistic liberties. I made a few attempts at adding the window (which for referance is about 1/2 -3/4 the size of the ground floor windows) but i couldnt put the window in without dramatically changeing the slope of the roof. any time i added the window it just looked silly

Sid Sinister> The concept art isnt mine it belongs to our resident model god Jon Fletcher it was one of those peices that sparked a little bit of creative urge and compelled me to give it a shot. I still need to work on my more traditional art skills. I based all of my abilities on the technical aspect of the software and am working to better my overall skills and really get somewhere on n artistic level.

OBese87> Yeah there are a few things that are going to need changing that stone base being one of them. The roof will gain the more realisting tile work based off the methods of that tutorial i linked (filling in for the language i dont know and just making educated assumptions based off the images)

All in all this model could go anywhere at the moment, i have alot of changes to make to it and may even start over again from scratch just to make sure that it follows a visual style and quality that i am pleased with. Jon's work has been a real insiration with the direction i want to go with 3d and learn more with each passing day

Haha, now that you mention it, I see Fletchers style in it for sure.

It looks like you're modelling it based off of what you think it should look like instead of directly off of the original concept. Fletch threw in a lot of curved edges and cartoonish proportions in there to give it some character whereas yours looks more like a generic building. If thats what you were going for and you're just using his concept for some reference thats fine, but thats my opinion.

Thanks, it was such an intresting piece of concept art i had to take a stab at it.

Im kind of going to go for the more World of warcraft look (ie close to the concept art) and i am not likeing the current porportions i have on the building so im probably going to be altering alot on it. i need to take some screen shots from the Stormwind and goldshire and make sure it is close with the architecture. I think my first pass i compulsively tweaked the model towards a bit more realism than it needed. Maybe if im lucky i can complete the building and texture before blizzard opens up thier 2010 summer internships.

Now that the local 3d god is working i got to make it something epic.

Its been a busy week so i havent had much time to put in on this after massing around with the proportions i more or less started over. Im breaking the project down into managable chunks. Right now im working on the sign itself following a little example of the textureing on polycount.

the wood still needs to be capped off but I think it looks ok. Im still working my texureing abilities so that part is going to take a while lol. also i am trying to keep a similar art style to blizzard's which is an intresting challenge.

My only problem is that you have not over exaggerated some of the key items shown is Jon's Concept, and in some places under exaggerated, to me that exaggeration gives that piece of art its charm.

yeah im still in the proccess of remodeling it with the off proportions that jon's art has. When i was modeling it i think i kept tweeking the overall proportions so that they looked closer to reality than the concept art.
