Hi all, I have recently purchased Fallout 3 on PS3 and I have played for about 200 hours. Now the game can only run for about 5 minutes before I need to turn my PS3 off at the back. This is very frustrating because I am finding it very difficult to repeat everything over and over again. This is NOT caused by overheating as I have tried letting it cool down over night. I have the latest PS3 patch installed, and the latest fallout 3 patch, 1.61. I also have fallout 3 on PC but I got it on PS3 because of the better quality and performance. I also know how to mod it on PS3. I have the 40gb model of PS3 and it is on it's 2nd HDD. Sometimes, this crash occurs with oblivion, but no other games are affected.

please help
thanks

My 360 Fallout 3 crashes if I ever look directly at darts...

It's one of those games that's so hugely overcomplicated (try editing a nif if you don't know what I mean) it's hopeless to try and play it through to the end without at least ten crashes.

You've modded the game on the PS3?

I know about that, but I was suggesting maybe the source of his problems could be due to a dodgy mod or something.

^ *sigh*

@GamerDude

A quick google search indicates that crashing is a common problem with the PS3 version of Fallout 3 (and the original, unpatched PC version, if I'm not mistaked).

You will continue to be annoying in this regard unless you use proper grammar and also give a valid reason to why you hate it so much.

If you can't give a measured reason for hating it, then your argument is invalid. Now go play some Halo or something...

I'd love to say I can help you with this, but I own a 360, so, no problems for me with my copy... *Does smug "my-xbox-actually-doesn't-spontaneously-combust-surprisingly" dance*...

If I was ever given the opportunity to remove all the bad from the world, I wouldn't, because for there to be heroism, compassion and all that is good, there must also be all that is bad.

I have tried google several times. And I had not installed any mods yet. It is seriously annoying, especially when the PS3 is not overheating or being moved around.

A good guess would be to ask the developer in their forum?

You might want to try uninstalling all of the patches. They just made it worse with each one beyond 1.015. The release version has a random crash bug when going through doors with autosave enabled but 1.015 is the most stable and VATS actually works in it unlike all of the following updates in which VATS incurs a huge pause and often reads 0% for no reason.

I've never had Fallout 3 or any game for the PS3 crash on me. I think the problem may be in the patches as mentioned above, when I was playing Fallout 3 I ran it without any patches/updates.

Indeed. The only reason the console versions tend to be more stable than the PC version is because the PC is used as a bug testbed for the consoles. -_-'

You also need a NASA supercomputer to run it smoothly. Also, it's preferable that you increase the virtual memory for PCs running FO3 to 3gb, although last time I tried that my PC was unbootable for two weeks >_>

Not really... I used to play it and Oblivion on a 1.8gHz Athlon from ~6 years back with 1Gb of RAM and a nVidia 6200. It was pushing the limits, but it was always playable.

It's playable for me on my computer but it only ever gets to 30fps in interiors. Outdoors it's always 15-20fps for me. IMHO, it's more hardware intensive than Crysis.

Yeah, it runs great (sort of better than Oblivion, actually).

Then you *really* need to set it up better. Use this guide. It will work wonders if you take his advice.

I also just got Fallout 3 but i only clocked about 20 hours on it not 200 lol, It seems to be working fine for me. I also got the lastest update for Fallout But im Running PS3 Firmware 3.0, There is version 3.1 out *that supposed to fix Uncharted problems* Maybe if you get 3.1 it will help, or maybe since you got 3.1 that has been the problem. Who knows.
