Hey guys, just wanted to post up some pics of a high poly fountain I've been working on lately. If your serious about 3D Modeling, and haven't done so already, I recommend investing in some of eat3d's video tutorials. It's well worth it. I've been going through the the high poly fountain tutorial and the results so far are awesome (well, the pics speak for themselves). This video really took my skills and improved upon them. The thing I've gotten the most out of this video so far has been with the sub-d techniques. Good stuff.

Anyway, enough yapping. Pics.

Edit: Almost forgot a wire pic

Isoline Display is much better that regular wireframes when using Turbosmooth

I was at 1.1 Million Poly's last night, but it's down to 513,000 (ish) now that I'm instancing all the sides. Max gets a little unstable for me over 1 million, so I'm trying to keep it below that, even for a high poly.

Obviously it's a WIP. I'll keep posting my progress as I go along. This thread should keep me motivated too.

Zbrush next, then the low poly tutorial.

Nice m8, just curious about all those small cracks/thinggies (in lack of a better word), are they just inwards extruded faces with a few supportive edges?

Best.

It's very good to know all links to Youtube that contain Rick-rolls. Sadly I don't.

This is nice so far but $60 for a tutorial on making a fountain? Ouch. Not to mention the tools used. Autodesk 3ds Max 2010, Mudbox 2009, ZBrush 3.1, Photoshop. Again ouch. Certainly not for the everyday hobbiest.

Does look pretty nice though and looking forward to seeing your end result. keep up the good work.

Beautiful! But, I have to agree with tatts . . . OUCH on the price tag, there. Still, your results are fabulous so far. Can't wait to see more!

Yeah, you have a point there, but one should be able to translate something like that to Blender. Good luck finding something like zbrush or mudbox for free though... I'm not sure if they have demo versions or not.

Nope, they are all separate blocks, just like in real life I didn't place every single one though, it's actually an easy process. Symmetry is amazing, and for the rounded parts, a bend modifier.

EDIT: Might not get to update till tomorrow. I have some free time tonight though. We'll see. If you guys want to see how I did some of that stuff, ask me a specific question and I'll show you

I don't think people are buying this DVD to learn how to create a fountain. More to learn the workflow involved to apply it to other work, and maybe learn a few time saving tips from a professional. Looks like a fun project.

That's true, and I can definitely see that purpose in there. But . . . when so many tutorials are free . . . Ah well! Someday when I get more advanced, perhaps I will find myself needing to purchase such a DVD to enhance my abilities as well. We'll see!

Well, this isn't a hobby for me guys. This is my career. I needed to invest that $60, and I got what I paid for. His DVD's are top of the line. It's like sitting down with a pro and having him explain everything to you. Same with Digital Tutor DVD's and Gnomon Workshop DVD's. Free tutorials only get you so far.

Anyway, I should be able to work on this again tonight and have an update by Saturday.
