Try making the lights Dynamic, I think that solves it. Might be wrong though, but I don't have the time to test this.

I believe you also need to turn up the shadows on the shadows slider as well.

Yes

Whilst you can have dynamic shadows for characters in FPSC X10, they only appear at close range and don't get cast according to lights which is why they only appear directly underneath.

The stencil shadow effect shown in the tech demo looked 100% better than what is in the current version. See from 2:05 to 3:05 in this video:

I've mentioned this before. Its another feature which seems to have been restricted in the final product.

I managed to get a bit more from TGC about the restricted stencil shadows for characters in FPSC X10:

Quote: "The problem was that longer casting shadows would interfere with vertical geometry and cause unwanted visual artefacts so the shadow has been set to cast mainly downwards with some internal clipping. As such the engine does not offer long shadow support."

If they are not intending to fix stencil shadow projection on vertical geometry I think they should have properly projected shadows on the floor and just make it so there are no shadows cast on vertical geometry. At least that way we would still get the same quality shown in the tech demo.

The shadow is very nice there, but are there extra animations in parts of her body? lol

And the beta probably had twice as many bugs as the first version had.

Watching that video bond1 posted, its a real shame TGC couldn't include projected shadows as a feature. It appears to be working fine with segments.

I thought about trying to get a dx10 soft shadow shader working in FPSC X10 from the Nvidia site but the engine doesn't support HLSL shaders natively and I've no idea how to edit them to compile correctly.

Scroll down to 'soft shadows' example in the link below if your interested

Yeah, even you could, you can't just drop a shader in there for something as complicated as projected shadows - it's gotta be closely tied into the engine itself so it knows what the shadow is being projected onto. Self contained entity based shaders are no problem (for X9 users!).

After discovering projected shadows didn't make it into the public release of FPSC X10, I've started learning how to mod HL2 episode 2 as this was a key feature for me.

Attached is a screenshot of a basic room I've made in Source engine with dynamic shadows on the zombies.

And another.

I really hope Lee puts this back in for FPSC X10.
