It came out today. Or yesterday, if you're not in Australia.

Anyone got it yet? Is it good?

I seriously have no plans of it, as I don't own a system besides a PC... But it does look quite promising.

I work at a game store now, so I've seen it. Looks good but I don't know if I could play it without Master Chief

You know, I played Halo 3 and hated it, I do not know why, but I did, I loved the storyline but IMHO the gameplay sucked. Then again, I am use to CoD.

I picked up my copy today.

I've played single player for about an hour now, and it's definitely very good. It's going to take some getting used to finding health packs to get your health back though.

Also ammo seems to be in short supply so there's not going to be much firing in the general direction of the enemy hoping to get in hits.

I'm looking forward to trying out the firefight mode. Which I think is GoW2s horde mode Halofied...

One of my firends beat the solo campaign in under 5 hours on Insane. I don't think I'll be doing that, I'm having trouble on normal, but that's more to do with the fact that I'm aiming using a control pad and not the PC.

Gameplay is kinda too unrealistic. If Bungie added a sprint function and made jump height much lower it'd be a bit better.

The jump height is lower than Master Chief... No sprint is a bit of a pain, but no biggie.

You got this Toasty? What's your GT? Let's play now!

what's ODST stand for?

I haven't been following Halo since 2 came out. Never played 3, only have seen 10 seconds of gameplay.

It's got a 4 player co-op campaign.

4 player firefight mode. (GOW2 horde sort of)

It comes with a second disc with all Halo 3 multiplayer maps on it plus 3 new maps just for ODST.

Yeah, that's great for new people but I'm honestly not gonna touch Halo 3 MP for a looong time. It was great fun when it was released but all the old good maps rarely show up these days, like Valhalla or Sandtrap because of all the DLC. Kind of annoying, and I think I've lost my touch.

I tried Firefight online and the lag was unbearable. But it wasn't like the lag I have experienced in the past. I could aim perfectly, with no lag whatsoever, but the movement of myself, the other real player and the AI was in 3 second bursts. Move, freeze (but still able to aim), move, freeze (but still able to aim). It made it completely unplayable.

I've changed a few settings on my router in the vain hope that it will help, but I'm not sure as I've never had lag that bad even against people in different countries. The guy I was playing with was in Australia so I thought the lag would be minimal

Wow. That is bad. That happened to me a bit in H3 but that was only with guys from america.

I am in progress of a solo firefight game right now (someone else is using the telly). As you said Thraxas, it is freaking AWESOME. I'm playing on easy (because I'm by myself) and have lasted about 22 mins and am on round two.

The campaign is also awesome. Seems that you need to do a lot more scavenging than in the other games.

Well not a lot of people were convinced that it wouldn't be a cash cow. The majority of forums threads and blogs and whatnot have been people whinging about what a rip it is.

There's a couple of bargains out there right now, this, and NFS Shift is only £25 - could it be that we are seeing a long awaited price slump for games?

As epic as ODST is, I am gonna leave it for now, probably get it pre-owned for a few quid in a month or three. I mean it looks cool and all, but it's no Scribblenauts.

And those people are ignorant -- this is Halo They could make a Halo kart racing game and sell 5 million copies minimum.

If anyone remembers Halo 3's launch, MS was also unprepared for that, and XBL had some downtime.

Matt I'm getting the game today so we'll definitely be playing together.

I was gonna go get it at midnight but somehow I managed to fall asleep at 8pm. Which is really stupid because when you go to bed so early you wake up ridiculously early. Game Stop doesn't open for another 2 hours!!! I'm tired of waiting! Haha.

Beat the game in just over 4 hours. It's way too short. But it's damn fun still.

I was hoping not to hear that, as I beat Halo 3 in roughly the same time. A housemate says he's going to buy this today, so I might get a chance to see what it's like, but like VanB, I'm probably going to wait before buying it. Besides, I'm still playing Halo 3 against friends.

Heh. At H3's release I was really eager to play it and did that in roughly 3.

Just tried to start the campaign on Legendary (quite foolishly) on my own to try and get Dare for firefight. What a bad decision. I couldn;t get past the first four sets of enemies without dying

@SOTD: Yes, Firefight is pretty awesome but I don't like how you can;t turn off skulls. It basically makes enemies bulletproof when you get tilt on.

ATM I've finished the campaign, now am just looking for all the recording thingies and supply caches. I really love the freeroaming aspect of the game at the end.

I just love the darkness of the game like where it makes the characters seem more vulnerable and also have personalities where Master Cheif is a person you knew would always be the invincible and had a badass personality.

right, mc gave u sense of "im a complete and total badass and i can just charge em and not even lose shield" but from wat ive seen the new game makes u take tactical planned action rather than just scream "CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!!!"

This is my new favorite game. Halo 3 was my favorite game, and this game combines Halo 3's multiplayer with ODST's campaign and firefight.

Firefight is so sick. It's like every Halo game you've ever played, except on an unrelenting epic scale. It's such fun to get four people together and just destroy wave after wave of covenant.

"HAMMER GUY!" was probably the most yelled phrase while playing.

Just the first part of the single player campaign made it for me. Play the game, and your head will explode. What an excellent introduction. And the music is great of course.

I give it a:
10/10 (+2^3)

Definitely the most yelled phrase in every firefight game I've played so far lol.

I have been reading that people are loving the music and the music in this game is what has greatly disappointed me. It just didn't feel like halo music to me.

The more I play, the more I'm enjoying it. I'm getting slightly better. In my last game I even managed to get some headshots

Playing with a controller doesn't agree with me. I wish I could plug my mouse/keyboard into my xbox and play like that.

I've seen you online Inspire, I'm waiting to have a game with you.

Yeah, I'll invite you sometime. I'm currently going after those Vidmaster achievements.

It doesn't at first, though it still sounds great. But if you listen to the music during cutscenes, combat, or the ending credits (and I think the main menu), the music crescendos back into the classic Halo going-to-punch-someone-soon awesome music.

I've tried NZ but not horde. NZ is completely different. In that it's more like you are fighting to your certain doom, but in Firefight you're more like 'I AM A GOD AND I BLOODY KNEW IT!'. Somehow.
