I practiced some basic lowpoly modelling and texturing today and made this simple scifi pistol. The texture isnt the best, kinda basic but I was improving lowpoly skills not texture making ones. So:

Scifi Pistol
Polycount:105
Texture:One 512x512 .dds texture
Formats:.max,.3ds,.obj
Download:.rar

I'm going to be burtally honest here: That doesn't look good. The texture is garbage, the design of the gun is simplistic and looks as though you thought it up in about a second, and the model is rather simplistic. Also, with low-poly modeling, you don't bevel. Maybe you manually bevel the handgrip or somthing but don't round off the whole thing. And you never use cylinders with that high an amount of sides, use something like five sides for the barrel.

It was just a practice so you cant expect AAA+ model from Crysis. And plus you dont know what kind of guns you will have in the future. Its an imaginary one, could be also used for cartoonish games.

No, but I can expect something a little better than the rest of your WIPs. For example, your UMP. That wasn't the best UMP I've ever seen but at least it was a little more than a couple of beveled boxes, a trigger and some slapped-on cylinders. You look like you haven't even based your texture on the UV map. The whole thing is the same bad clouds filter, aside from the things at the end of the slide.

I don't, but I'm pretty sure that they won't look like this; this doesn't even have a trigger guard.

Why don't you take my criticism instead of trying to whinge about how I'm wrong. Because I'm not. You can do better than this.

I know you're just going to come back with a childish argument like you usually do when I post in ANY of your threads but it's worth a try.

That's fine. Most of you would be shocked at how bad some of my practice stuff looks like. That's why I don't post it.

dj if it was practice to "pass the time by" don't post it. we truly don't want to see it. its a waste of thread space, especially with it getting this much activity. and like i said before, render black on a light colored background. i can barely see anything in that screenshot.

Don't post if you have anything positive to say UNLESS THEY ASK FOR IT. I think the models good. He could make it a light colored background, but other than that, NOT EVERYONE IS A Henry Ham. Good job on the model and keep the good work up.

Thank you.Only 1% of people here understand that its not about the quality realy. This model could be easily used as a prop in a scifi game. And after all you can modify the model and texture.

Why not, exactly? Getting constructive criticism is half the reason anyone posts in 3D chat.

Well, did you know that that 1% of people don't really understand what 3D models are? Not really, but every experienced modeler I know (in fact, not just experienced, but ALL modelers I know), aspire to have models of genuine quality. What else are 3D models for? They are works of art, whether to be used in games or not.

Toasty, not everyone here is or aspires to be a professional. Please keep your personal opinions personal. Constructive criticism is good, but your comments are demoralising.

How is,

Demoralising? I'm not trying to aggravate anyone, I'm trying to help.

Anyway, seeing as this is going nowhere, can someone lock this? Because it's obvious that the OP doesn't want this open any more than I do.
