I like country, sometimes.

I listen to music that twiddles with my emotions. Whether that be music that has emotional value and reminds me of things, or just gets me excited/sad/happy like few songs can without previous exposure. Like most people prefer, I would suspect. Listing my current list of bands/composers is kind of pointless as they change like the weather, but my parameters for a "good song" probably won't change. And good songs pop out from the metal genre most often for me, but that might be because I've heard much more metal than any other genre so statistically, It should't be any surprise there. However, I could perhaps find good songs in polka or trance too if I bothered to give it a chance. I won't though, since I'm not so open minded that I can enjoy those genres fully, like I would enjoy more familiar music. That being said, I've had favourites in most genres from disco to classical and chick-flick OST. My cat's name is Snorlo, but I get bad vibes from my cat everytime I call her that. Ah yes, acorns. I find them just a bit too awkward to crack sometimes. Hard enough not to make it with my bare hands (sometimes), but too soft to bother to get tools to do the job.

What I listen to now can pretty much be summed up by what I was wanting to know how to play on the guitar when I was learning. I went after blues and classic rock mostly. Although I did take detours. The grunge era will always give me a euphoric recollection when I hear most things from it. Mostly Pearl Jam (in my tree), Mad Season (wake up), Alice in Chains (got me wrong), etc.

Later on, I learned that Clutch also rocks. The way they utilize the break at 2:51 reminds me of a modern day Bring it on home at 1:44 from Led Zeppelin... which also rocks...

But I also love me some Bela Fleck... but mostly because of Victor Wooten (cool rendition of 'Norwegian Wood' by the Beatles... whom... also rock)

/youtube links

EDIT: Has anyone here seen Hedwig and the angry inch? The origin of Love. Even though the movie was pretty bizarre at times, some of the songs and the story behind them were simply phenomenal.

The bands that I listen to vary fairly often because my friends keep showing me bands that I really like a lot. As of right now, I'm listening to Mayday Parade, This Providence, Hit The Lights, All Time Low, Secondhand Serenade and others of that style. Mayday Parade has really been a standby for me for about a year, and I can't seem to tire out from listening to their stuff.

Right now I can't get the new Pearl Jam album out of my head (Backspacer), even though I've only listened to it a few times I'm haunted.

Besides that, it's mostly 90's grunge and industrial that I'm listening to now...

Tool (esp Aenema, Triad, Schism)
Faith No More (esp Last Cup of Sorrow, Stripsearch)
Queens of the Stone Age (esp River in the road, I never came)
Metallica
System of a Down

Oh man, I love me some electro-jazz banjo and sweet bass. Have you heard the Flecktones' cover of Oh Darling? They bring in some crazy blues singer (don't know his name unfortunately), and he kills it, it's fantastic.

As far as "what nerds listen to," it seems that, mostly, the truly nerdy people listen to either metal, post-hardcore, or emo/screamo music.

Yeah, thanks for that. Instead of defending rap's case like you should have, you just went right on the offensive towards me. I don't get it. Is it because you know me in real life and you think it's okay to get away with or what?

I didn't mean that as a concrete/exclusive thing. I've just noticed a pattern. I probably should have clarified: by "nerd," I mean gamers/anime-people/basement-dwellers. Not the type of nerd this forum is made up of. Basically, I'm being 100% irrelevant.

Basically I really really get into any music that is heavy hitting and has a meaningful story to tell. The emotions I feel when listening to music has a great effect on whether I enjoy it or not just as much as the musical aspect does. It just helps me get into the music more. Here's some examples:

August Burns Red - Redemption
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwl6BmDArwk
This song has brought me to tears it's so beautiful (read the lyrics if you're appreciative of God and spiritual things)

Flyleaf - All Around Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-sNIWi2fLs
Love her voice and awesome messages behind all their songs

Demon Hunter - Carry Me Down
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD2t1qLJGLQ
Band that was a stepping stone to get me into metal, awesome vocalist packing great lyrics, heavy hitting guitars, and intricate drum beats.

Red - Death of Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiLwrFI5Fv8
Love this music video

I also love fast paced bouncy kinda music too. I love speeding down the road listening to Paramore, Switchfoot, Thousand Foot Krutch, Yellowcard, Anberlin, and Clutch to name a few.

The list is huge, these are just some of my favorites off the top of my head. I like a very large variety of music ranging from... I dunno what you might call it but cafe` rock to techno and electronic to metal to acoustic slow stuff over to fast paced punk rock.

MISoft Studios - Silver-Dawn Gorilda is lost!
