BRICK BREAKER REMIX

Hey guys. This is my first WIP and I know, I know who needs another Brick Breaker Game, but this ones a little different. When I was working with DarkNoobs, someone mentioned making a Brick Breaker Game with a paddle on the other side for another player. As soon as I heard those words I got to work on this. I took the Idea and tweaked it a little.

all included thus far worked well here (vista 64 system).

suggestions:
documentation/read me file:
* none - discovered (on accident) how to remove blocks in the editor (right-click) and left-click during game play to pause. dunno what else i might be missing so please let us know so we can properly test?

gameplay:
* please add a left wall visual.
* let ESC key take you back to menu vs closing the app.
* would like mouse pointer hidden during game play.
* start level in pause mode or some type of heads up on where the ball is starting from and when (maybe a 3-2-1 "count-down" would be appropriate)

otherwise, play and editor functionality is solid, and the 1-,2-,3- or 4-paddle "style" option is a nice feature looking forward to seeing (hearing) sound effects added. btw, i have a basic but decent sound effects generator i'd like to get some experience with, if you'd like, or you can find the app itself attached here if you need one.

otherwise, good stuff. thanks for sharing!

edit: wrong link so just attached the SFXR app

Looks pretty good! I like games that come along with their own editors.

@Virtual Nomad
Thanks for the detailed comment, I'll add a read me file. Also I'll make it so when you pause it tells you the controls.

Haha forgot to add the wall in. Didn't think to do it. I'll make the mouse pointer and option of on or off during gameplay, esc key is a good idea and I really really like the idea of a count down and have already started working on it.

@Chwilly
Haha couldn't play the game, it gave me an error, but did look at a screenshot of it and looks like someone already beat me to this idea .

@Djmaster
What are you running on currently and what error does it give you.

EDIT:

UPDATES
1) Added the ability to hit the escape key to jump to the main menu.
2) Changed how the gameplay looks by adding a wall and other stuff.
3) Added a new pause menu with options (The highscore table doesn't work yet ).
4) Added the ability to toggle the pointer being on or off during gameplay.
5) Added a countdown so you have a moment to prepare yourself.
6) Also fixed a bug where when you were saving a map in the editor, you couldn't see any bricks.

Here are some screenshots:

I took a look at the program and it looks quite good, but only problem is that my computer is old and sometimes acts up to a point where my speakers will stop working. Therefore I wasn't able to try it yet. As soon as I get the chance I will.

@djmaster,

the first time i downloaded BBR it ran fine (from the download window), after that i couldn't get it to run at all ("error 156" and i couldn't find anything on the forums re: error 156). i tried every compatability mode, etc, i could and then decided to put the exe in it's own folder(it was sitting in my Download folder, which is vast/contains many other files). once i did that, it ran fine (and continues to). worth a shot for you.

@pictionaryjr,

updates are looking good

attached are a few basic sounds i think might work. feel free to use them, place-holders or otherwise, if you like.

I tried the app and actually like it a lot . I wasn't really sure how I was going to make the sounds for my game and this basically does it for me.

Updates:
1) Have started work on the highscore table.
2) Finished multiplayer on a single computer. Kind of cheated considering I built the program around it knowing I was going to do it. All I really had to do was make the menu screen for it.
3) Finished music and volume control even though there are no sounds yet .
4) Finished player colors so you can actually tell who you are when playing. It takes a moment to figure out which paddle you are when they are all the same.

Unfortunately, I don't have my computer with the source code at the moment, so I'm not able to post the new demo or screenshots. I will have them up as soon as possible.
