3 Dimensional Chat / Blender spliting up objects?

i made a character in blender but want to animate him. i need to split him up so him arms, legs, head etc. are separate. how would i do this?

why do you need to separate it? you can rig it as a whole mesh, but you can separate it by selecting only the group of vertices that hold that piece together with the whole piece. then delite thease selected vertices.

Add armatures and then weight paint his body parts to the armature. If you don't know how to do this, then look it up online.

If it hasn't exploded yet, I haven't touched it.

umm.... what? lol

can't i just press a button after selecting some vertices to separate it?

Yep. Press "P" while in edit mode.
