Anyone noticed how different programs look different when running at the same FPS? For example, if you run 3D Mark 3, and get 30FPS on some of the demos, they still look really smooth, but on DB 30 FPS is quite jerky. Anyone noticed that?

There's a reason for that, search for SYNC RATE in the help file.

so is Dbpro like Blitz, where the frame rate of the rendering actually changes how fast the game logic is running? That bites! A "real" game of the shelf can be low frame rate and still play at a normal speed and control the same, it's just jerky. Anyway to get around that then?

Yes you can use the Timer() command to get around this. someone posted a good example in the RGT forums in the code snippets, I think.

Kevin, I know all about the sync rate command. You should try reading the post more clearly. I'm talking about a comparison between 30FPS in one program and 30FPS in another. I'm not trying to adjust the frame rate.

Here is some code that allows the main loop to do 500 loops per sec (average over 3 secs) but maintain a constant framerate that u can set.

Only problm is, if say u use the command "move object 1,1" and the program is running at 500 a sec then the distance moved in one sec will be 500. If the program was then run on slower computer that does 100 loops per sec then the distance moved will be 100.

to get around the u will have to use the average loops per sec and use "move object 1,(100/average)" so the both move 100 per sec.

I swear people click on posts, scan them, think of something they can say to make them look clever, and then type it without actually reading the post in the first place.

sigh! no I haven`t noticed that, 30fps is 30fps, it can`t look worse in one application than the other, I don`t know what applications you are talking about, but if they both do 30fps and the onscreen objects move at the same speed then it will look exactly the same, if you can explain how a cube being shown 3 pixels to the right in each succesive picture thirty times a second can look "different" when shown in one program to the other, then please do, I am all agog to hear this (to me) unknown aspect of motion .

Becuase one program moves the object thirty times a second and the other once every frame, as was already explained.

There is also the possibility of minute differences in calculation of FPS in each environment. Mathematical rounding, placement in the loop itself.. They may not both be calling the exact same equivalent DX9 command of Get_FPS() (whatever that may be)..
