How to make it fat?i cant understand what the question is im going to guess that your model is flat and that you need help making it 3dimensonal, select the model press numpad 1 (make shure that you are in edit mode) and press E and then choose Region and wollah extrude it to the size you may see fit.

Oh and i recomend that you take a look at the UI Tutorials your are obvisly not familier with the Interface in Blender.
I am new to blender so i am not so famillier with it measeage back with the end result.
Good luck

Hmm, he was working with a flat plane instead of a 3 dimensional shape to start with. I wouldn't recommend that To each his own, I suppose.

Anyway, all he did was select all of the faces from the plane once he finished tracing his reference image, and then he extruded the faces from that to give it depth. Go into edit mode, and make sure you are in face select mode. Then press A until the entire mesh is selected. Now press either 1, 3, or 7 on the number keys so you're looking at the mesh from the top view. Press E, and then select extrude region. Now grab the extruded faces (G), and press either X, Y, or Z on the keyboard to pull them out parallel to the grid. Should work

All you did was outline the shape, extrude and paste on a photo. You need to add depth, shape, uv map it and make a real texture using photoshop or parts of photos.

Well hes new to this so give him some time.
When I started (quite recently actually) I started with 3 cardboard cutout guns. I think its a little too advanced for a begginer to do much more detail than that so then I moved on to simple objects you can make out of deformed cubes and I think I'm moving along pretty nicely. Anyways thats the path I recommend for begginers to Blender. Gimme a sec and I'll get some pics up.

The first four are lanterns and the last one is a pot. All made completely from one or two cubes(well some were copied and pasted but that doesn't count ).
