I downloaded some 3d models made with 3d studio, but dbp don't load them.
The screen become black and i have to return to windows with ctrl-alt-canc.

All x models are loaded correctly.

I thought P5 intrduced this functionality again after it was removed with P4?

Theres no place like 127.0.0.1

I can load all the .3DS files that I have with Patch 5 perfectly...

Patch 4.1 reintroduced all the other 3D formats back in to DBPro.

i tried to convert with some option of the conv3ds, but it return me a 3d model with transparent stripes.

Sometime when i convert simply with
conv3ds name.3ds
it return me a warning:not outputting dummy frame with child!

Does the 3ds have animation? I am still experimenting with it with anims, so I am not too sure. I read on some web site that it doesn't like "Dummy Animations" only true Keyframed stuff. As far as it being striped, maybe some problem with texture graphic containing transparent colors, not sure.

Possible arguments :

-A : Convert also animations
-m : Doesn't convert frame hierarchy.
-x (minuscule) : Create a text file, instead of a binary file
-o [nom du fichier] : Allows you to give the output filename.

Ok, I got the anims working correctly. Originally I tried a 360 spinning box but instead of making keyframes I slid to 100 and spun the box while capturing the anim - ending up with a keyframe at 1 and at 100 - conv3ds.exe doesn't like this and it didn't spin in dpb, it just "vibrated" when the frames wrapped around from 100 back to zero.
To fix it I animated a spin but used a keyframe at every 25th frame, converted with exe and loaded to dbp - all animation was good but a little fast so I slowed it with SET OBJECT SPEED command.

hope this helps
